The 2018 SMC-PSA Annual Awards was an annual ceremony recognizing the athletes, teams, executives and personalities in the past year 2017. The awards is organized by the Philippine Sportswriters Association, a Philippine-based media organization composed of sports writers and reporters, section editors and columnists from print (broadsheet and tabloids) and online media. PSA is headed by Eduardo "Dodo" Catacutan of Sports Interactive Network Philippines. [1]

Contents

The awards night, with the theme "A Night of Greatness", was held on February 27, 2018 at the Maynila Hall of the Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila. [1] [2] [3] The awards night is mainly sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Milo, Philippine Sports Commission, Cignal and Tapa King. [4]

Cue artist Carlo Biado, bowler Krizziah Lyn Tabora and boxer Jerwin Ancajas were awarded as the co-Athletes of the Year. [1] [5] [6] PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Ricky Vargas attended the occasion. [7] [8]

Secretary of Agriculture and former sports columnist Manny Piñol was served as the guest speaker representing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. [1] [9]

Alyssa Caymo Valdez is a Filipino volleyball player who currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers. She was a member of the collegiate varsity women's volleyball team of Ateneo de Manila University in both indoor and beach volleyball. She was most outstanding as an indoor volleyball player where she brought multiple championship titles and a lot of honor for the university. She is a current member of Philippines national team. Her global recognition paved the way for her to play in other countries like Thailand for 3BB Nakornnont and Taiwan for Attack Line Volleyball Club.

The 2016 PSA Annual Awards was organized by the Philippine Sportswriters Association, the oldest media organization based in the Philippines formed by sportswriters from newspapers and sports news websites. PSA is currently helmed by Riera U. Mallari of the Manila Standard. The awards night was co-presented by MVP Sports Foundation, Milo, Philippine Racing Commission, San Miguel Corporation, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Accel, GlobalPort, Rain or Shine, Maynilad, Smart Communications, ICTSI, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, SM Prime Holdings, One Esplanade, National University and Senator Francis Escudero.
