President of Namibia

The President of the Republic of Namibia is the head of state and the head of government of Namibia, as well as the commander-in-chief of the Namibia Defence Force, according to the Constitution of Namibia.

Hage Geingob researcher

Hage Gottfried Geingob is the third and the current President of Namibia, in office since 21 March 2015. Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 21 March 1990 to 28 August 2002, and he served as Prime Minister again from 4 December 2012 to 21 March 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. He was Vice-President of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) between 2007 and 2015 and became acting President in 2015 when his predecessor, Hifikepunye Pohamba, stepped down.

Nickey Iyambo is a Namibian politician and physician who served as the first Vice President of Namibia from 2015 until his resignation in 2018. A member of SWAPO, Iyambo has been a member of the Cabinet of Namibia since independence in March 1990. He was the Minister of Health and Social Services from 1990 to 1996, Minister of Regional and Local Government and Housing from 1996 to 2002, Minister of Mines and Energy from 2002 to 2005, Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry from 2005 to 2008, Minister of Safety and Security from 2008 to 2010, and Minister of Veterans' Affairs since 2010. He retired as Vice-President due to poor health in 2018 but continues to head the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs.

Nangolo Mbumba Namibian politician

Nangolo Mbumba is a Namibian politician who is the current Vice President of Namibia. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mbumba has headed a number of Namibian ministries: Agriculture, Water and Rural Development (1993-1996), Finance (1996-2003), Information and Broadcasting (2003-2005) Education (2005–2010), and Safety and Security (2010-2012). In 2012 he became the Secretary-General of SWAPO serving until 2017.

Rosalia Annette Nghidinwa was a Namibian politician. Born in Nkurenkuru, Kavango Region, Nghidinwa was a member of the South West Africa People's Organization, Nghidinwa was a member of the cabinet of Namibia as Deputy Minister of Labour from 2000 to 2005, Minister of Immigration and Home Affairs from 2005 to 2012 and Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare since December 2012.

Nora Schimming-Chase was a Namibian politician. A member of the Congress of Democrats, Schimming-Chase has been a member of the National Assembly of Namibia from 2000 to her death in 2018. Prior to joining the NA with the opposition CoD, Schimming-Chase was a long time diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was a teacher and the South West African National Union representative in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 1974 to 1978. She was Namibia's ambassador to Germany from 1992 to 1996 and Austria from 1994 to 1996.

Theo-Ben Gurirab was a Namibian politician regarded as one of the founding fathers of that Republic. He served as the second Prime Minister of Namibia from 28 August 2002 to 20 March 2005, following the demotion and subsequent resignation of Hage Geingob. Previously he was the country's first Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 2002, and was President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1999 to 2000. He was Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia from 2005 to 2015. Gurirab retired from political life in 2015.

Petrus Iilonga was a Namibian politician as well as a trade union leader and political prisoner. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Iilonga served as Deputy Minister in various Ministries and was a member of the party's Central Committee.

It has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by Ovambo people.

Abraham Iyambo was a Namibian politician. Iyambo was a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since 1995, serving as Minister of Fisheries from 1997 to 2010 and as Minister of Education from 2010 to 2013. Iyambo was a member of both the Central Committee and Political Bureau of the SWAPO Party and the chairperson of its Think Tank.

Ruben Michael Ningilanayi Ashipala or Danger Ashipala was a Namibian police officer, military commander and military officer. Ashipala was also a guerrilla fighter and high-profile commander of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia.

The Cabinet of Namibia is an appointed body that was established by the Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Namibia. It is mandated to include the following positions: the President of Namibia, the Prime Minister of Namibia and any positions that the President so appoints.

Vice-President of Namibia

The Vice-President of Namibia is the acting President of Namibia when the President is outside the country's borders, unable to fulfill the duties of the office, or when the Presidency is vacant. The Vice-President is also a member of the National Assembly and the Cabinet. The Vice-President is constitutionally required to 'assist the President in the execution of the functions of government,' and may be assigned any government portfolio by presidential proclamation.

Mukwanangombe Auguste Mukwahepo Immanuel affectionately known as Meekulu Mukwahepo is former Namibian guerrilla, notable for being the first woman recruit of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia. Mukwahepo committed her life looking after children during the South African Border War, moving from one camp to another whenever the need arose.

Bernard Haufiku is a Namibian medical doctor and the former Minister of Health and Social Services of Namibia. He was appointed to the Parliament of Namibia in 2015 by President Hage Geingob representing the ruling SWAPO party until 20 December 2018 when he was replaced by Dr. Kalumbi Shangula. He is currently a Special Adviser to vice president Nangolo Mbumba on health matters. Previously, he served as head of the Namibian Health department.
