It was the 18th edition of the Bronx Open, and first edition as part of the WTA International tournaments of the 2019 WTA Tour. It took place at the Cary Leeds Center in Crotona Park in The Bronx, New York City, United States from 18 to 24 August 2019.

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka defeated Alison Riske in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–1 to win the singles tennis title at the 2019 Wuhan Open.

Naomi Osaka defeated Ashleigh Barty in the final, 3–6, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 China Open. It was Osaka's second Premier Mandatory-level title.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Petra Kvitová in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2020 WTA Qatar Open.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty in the final, 6–0, 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Madrid Open. It was her 10th career WTA Tour singles title, and her first on clay.

Jeļena Ostapenko defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, 6–3, 6–3, to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Eastbourne International. By winning her fourth career WTA Tour singles title, Ostapenko became the tournament's third wildcard champion, following Monica Seles (1996) and Julie Halard-Decugis (2000).

Anna Blinkova defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final, 6–2, 3–6, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Transylvania Open. It was her maiden WTA Tour singles title, and she won it as a qualifier.

Belinda Bencic defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–0, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Adelaide International 2.

Wang Xiyu defeated Magda Linette in the final, 6–0, 6–2 to win the singles title at the 2023 Guangzhou Open. It was her first WTA Tour title.
