Tamarine Tanasugarn and Zhang Shuai were the defending champions, but Tanasugarn chose not to participate. Zhang played alongside Yaroslava Shvedova, but lost in the first round to Tímea Babos and Olga Govortsova. First seeded Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai won the title, defeating in the final 3rd seeded Vania King and Galina Voskoboeva with the score 6–3, 4–6, [12–10].
Kimiko Date-Krumm and Casey Dellacqua were the defending champions, but Dellacqua decided not to participate. Date-Krumm played alongside Ajla Tomljanović, but lost to Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova in the quarterfinals.
Alison Riske won the first edition of the tournament, defeating Belinda Bencic in the final, 6–3, 6–4.
Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai were the defending champions, however Peng chose not to participate. Zhang partnered with Chuang Chia-jung, but lost in the first round to Anastasia Rodionova and Vera Zvonareva.
Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan won the title, defeating Shuko Aoyama and Tamarine Tanasugarn in the final, 2–6, 6–4, [10–3].

Maria Sharapova defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final, 7–5, 7–6(10–8) to win the singles tennis title at the 2017 Tianjin Open. It was Sharapova's first title since serving a suspension for a doping offense, and her final career title before retiring in 2020.
Petra Kvitová was the defending champion but failed to qualify this year.
İpek Soylu and Xu Yifan were the defending champions, but did not participate this year.

Dalila Jakupović and Irina Khromacheva are the defending champions, however Jakupović chose not to participate. Khromacheva was scheduled to partner countrywoman Olga Doroshina, but the pair withdrew after Khromacheva sustained a viral illness.
Monique Adamczak and Jessica Moore were the defending champions, but Adamczak chose to compete in Osaka instead. Moore played alongside Dalila Jakupović, but lost in the first round to Alexa Guarachi and Giuliana Olmos.

Guo Hanyu and Jiang Xinyu defeated Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–4) to win the doubles title at the 2023 Guangzhou Open. It was Guo's first WTA Tour title.
