The 2019 William Jones Cup is the 41st staging of William Jones Cup, an international basketball tournament held in Changhua, and New Taipei City, Taiwan. The men's tournament was held from 12 to 21 July 2019 while the women's tournament will be contested from 24 to 28 July 2019.

The 2013 William Jones Cup was the 35th tournament of the William Jones Cup that took place at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei, Republic of China from July 6 to July 15. Iran's national basketball team went on to win their fourth title by winning all of their seven games in the tournament.

The 2016 William Jones Cup was the 38th staging of William Jones Cup, an international basketball tournament. The men's tournament was held from 23–31 July 2016 at the Hsinchuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The women's tournament was held from 3–7 August 2016.

The East Asia Super League, abbreviated as the EASL, is an international basketball league featuring clubs from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Taiwan.

The Philippines men's national basketball team competed in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup which was held in China from August 31 to September 15, 2019. This is the Philippines second straight appearance in the FIBA Basketball World Cup since its participation in the 2014 edition hosted in Spain.

The 2019–20 Super Basketball League was the seventeenth season of the Super Basketball League, which opened on December 14. The venues are distributed in Heping Basketball Stadium, Banqiao Stadium, Xinzhuang Stadium, Taoyuan Arena, Hsinchu Municipal Stadium, and Changhua County Stadium. This season, due to the withdrawal of the Dacin Tigers, the Taipei Fubon Braves to the ASEAN Basketball League, and the Golden Gate Winery Basketball Team was renamed the Kaohsiung Jeoutai Technology Basketball Team due to the change of sponsor to Jeoutai Technology. The participating teams are the Yulon Luxgen Dinos, Taoyuan Puyuan Architecture, Jeoutai Technology, Taiwan Beer and Bank of Taiwan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the middle of the season, the star games in February and all events in the second half of the season were cancelled and closed games were adopted. Then, because the New Taipei City government closed the public venues on March 20, 2020, SBL was originally scheduled to suspend the game for two weeks, and subsequently changed to the Haoyu International Basketball Training Center as the venue for the competition. Under the influence of the pandemic, SBL became one of the few sports leagues that could sustain their season. Therefore, the broadcaster provided a viewing channel for global fans, including Twitter and YouTube, and cooperated with FIBA. In the live broadcast, there were a maximum of 847,000 viewership records on Twitter in the championship series, and also received media reports from The New York Times and ESPN.

The 2023 William Jones Cup will be the 42nd staging of William Jones Cup, an international basketball tournament held in Taipei, Taiwan. The men's tournament will be held from 12 to 20 August, 2023 while the women's tournament will be contested from 5 to 9 August 2023.
