The 2020 South American Futsal World Cup qualifiers was a men's futsal tournament that was used as the South American qualifying tournament to determine the four CONMEBOL teams playing in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup (originally 2020 but postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic) in Lithuania. [1] [2] [3] The tournament was held in Carlos Barbosa, Brazil between 1–9 February 2020. [4]

Brazil were the defending champions.

Champions Argentina, runners-up Brazil, third-placed Paraguay and fourth-placed Venezuela qualified for the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup as the CONMEBOL representatives. [5]

Note: Statistics start from 2012 when a separate qualifying tournament was held. Prior to 2012, the Copa América de Futsal was used as the CONMEBOL qualifying tournament for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Draw

The draw of the tournament was held on 15 January 2020, 12:30 PYST (UTC−3), at the CONMEBOL headquarters at Luque, Paraguay. [6] [7] The hosts and holders, Brazil, and the previous tournament's runners-up, Argentina, were seeded in Groups A and B respectively, while the other eight teams were divided into four pots based on their results in the 2016 qualifiers, and were drawn to the remaining group positions. The top two teams of each group advance to the knockout stage and qualify for the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Tiebreakers

The ranking of teams in the first stage is determined as follows (Regulations Article 8): [9]

  1. Points obtained in all group matches (three points for a win, one for a draw, none for a defeat);
  2. Goal difference in all group matches;
  3. Number of goals scored in all group matches;
  4. Points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
  5. Goal difference in the matches played between the teams in question;
  6. Number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
  7. Fair play points in all group matches (only one deduction could be applied to a player in a single match):
    • Yellow card: −1 points;
    • Indirect red card (second yellow card): −3 points;
    • Direct red card: −4 points;
    • Yellow card and direct red card: −5 points;

CONMEBOL

The tournament was held in San José, Costa Rica between 8–14 May 2016. A total of eight teams played in the tournament.

The 2016 South American Futsal World Cup qualifiers was a men's futsal tournament that was used as the South American qualifying tournament to determine three of the four CONMEBOL teams in the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup final tournament in Colombia. 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL)

The 2017 CONMEBOL qualifiers for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, was the seventh edition of the Beach Soccer World Cup qualification championship contested by the men's national teams of South America to determine the best beach soccer nation on the continent, organised by CONMEBOL. The tournament acted as a qualifying event to the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, with the top three finishing nations progressing to the finals in the Bahamas.

Futsal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics

The futsal competition at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 18 October. At Tecnópolis and the CeNARD, the first one located in Villa Martelli, and the second one in Buenos Aires. There are two tournaments, one for boys and one for girls.

The 2021 CONCACAF Futsal Championship is the 7th edition of the CONCACAF Futsal Championship, the quadrennial international futsal championship organised by CONCACAF for the men's national teams of the North, Central American and Caribbean region. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala between 1–10 May 2020. However, on 19 March 2020, CONCACAF announced the decision to postpone the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 11 February 2021, CONCACAF confirmed Guatemala as host and announced Guatemala as host and that the dates are going to be May 3–9, 2021.
