Victoria Azarenka won the women's singles tennis title at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters via walkover, after Naomi Osaka withdrew from the final with a hamstring injury. It was Azarenka's first singles title since the 2016 Miami Open, and her first since giving birth to her son Leo in December 2016.
Madison Keys was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Ons Jabeur.

Victoria Azarenka defeated Serena Williams in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Indian Wells Masters.
Angelique Kerber was the defending champion, but retired in the semifinals against Sloane Stephens.
Elina Svitolina defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Canadian Open. It was her third consecutive Premier 5 title, making her the first woman to win the first three Premier 5 tournaments in a season, as well as the first to win three consecutive Premier 5 tournaments since Wozniacki won Montreal and Tokyo in 2010 and Dubai in 2011. This was also Wozniacki's sixth consecutive loss in a final in 2017, making her the first to lose that many finals in a row in one season, as well as the first woman to lose six finals in a single season since Maria Sharapova in 2012.
Lesia Tsurenko was the defending champion and successfully defended her title, defeating Stefanie Vögele in the final, 5–7, 7–6(7–2), 6–2.
Naomi Osaka defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters. It was her first WTA Tour title. This was the first time two players under 21 had contested the final since Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in 2001. At 20 years old, Osaka was the youngest Indian Wells Masters champion since Ana Ivanovic in 2008, and the youngest at any Premier Mandatory event since Caroline Wozniacki at the 2010 China Open. She was also only the third unseeded player to win the tournament after Serena Williams (1999) and Clijsters (2005), and the first Japanese player to win a Premier Mandatory title.

The 2020 Western & Southern Open was a men's and women's tennis tournament being played on outdoor hard courts from August 22–29, 2020. It was the first Masters 1000 tournament on the 2020 ATP Tour and the second WTA Premier 5 tournament on the 2020 WTA Tour. This was the first ATP tournament since the Tour was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Simona Halep won the women's singles tennis title at the 2020 Italian Open after the defending champion Karolína Plíšková retired from the final, with the scoreline at 6–0, 2–1. It was her first Italian Open title.

The 2021 Miami Open was a professional hardcourt tennis tournament played from March 23 to April 4, 2021, on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The 36th edition of the Miami Open, it was a Masters 1000 event on the 2021 ATP Tour, and a WTA 1000 event on the 2021 WTA Tour. The 2020 edition was postponed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida.
Defending champion Ashleigh Barty won the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Miami Open after Bianca Andreescu retired from the final with the scoreline at 6–3, 4–0. Barty saved a match point en route to the title, in the second round against Kristína Kučová.
Paula Badosa defeated Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–6(7–5), 2–6, 7–6(7–2) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters. At three hours and four minutes, the final was the longest women's final contested at Indian Wells. Badosa became the first Spanish woman to win the title. This was her first WTA 1000 title and her second career WTA Tour singles title overall. Azarenka was aiming to become the first woman to win the title three times.

Iga Świątek defeated Naomi Osaka in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Miami Open. She became the fourth woman in history to complete the Sunshine Double in singles, having won Indian Wells two weeks earlier. It was Świątek's first Miami Open title, her third consecutive WTA 1000 title, and her fourth WTA 1000-level title overall. Świątek became the first woman in history to win the first three WTA 1000 titles of the year in succession, the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win three consecutive WTA 1000 titles, and extended her winning streak to 17 matches. She lost no sets and just 26 games en route to the title, the fewest since Martina Hingis dropped 21 games in 2000.
Iga Świątek defeated Donna Vekić in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 San Diego Open. It was her eighth title of the 2022 season. By winning the title, Świątek became the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win more than 10,000 ranking points in a single season.
Belinda Bencic defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–0, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Adelaide International 2.
