It marked the 12th time that Canada has hosted the World Women's Curling Championship. The 2012 World Women's Championship was one of the curling events that is a qualifier for the curling tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

It was the third women's Grand Slam event of the 2012–13 World Curling Tour. The event was held in a triple knockout format with 48 teams, and the purse for the event was CAD$54,000. Lawton won her second Grand Slam and sixth Colonial Square Ladies Classic title with a win over Chelsea Carey in the final, stealing the winning point in the final end and winning with a score of 5–4.

The 2021 World Men's Curling Championship was held from April 2 to 11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Canada. The event was originally to be held in Ottawa, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship was moved to Calgary. The event was held in a bio-secure bubble at Canada Olympic Park, which also hosted all major Curling Canada championships leading up to the Worlds. All events were held behind closed doors with no spectators.

The 2021 Euro Super Series was a curling event among various countries of Europe. It was held from 31 August to 5 September at the National Curling Academy in Stirling, Scotland. It was the first international competition hosted by the club, which serves as the home club for the top British curlers. The total purse for the event was £6,000 on both the men's and women's sides.

The 2024 WCT New Year Curling in Miyota was held from December 29 to January 1 at the Curling Hall Miyota in Miyota, Japan. The total purse for the event was ¥ 2,000,000. It was the second event on the World Curling Tour Japan for the 2023–24 curling season.
The 2024 Korean Curling Championships,, Korea's national curling championships, were held from June 9 to 17 at the Uijeongbu Curling Stadium in Uijeongbu, South Korea. The winning teams on both the men's and women's sides became the Korean National Teams for the 2024–25 curling season. They will represent Korea at the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships, the 2025 Asian Winter Games and later the 2025 World Curling Championships. Both the men's and women's events were played in a round robin format which qualified four teams for the page playoffs.
