Elena-Gabriela Ruse is a Romanian professional tennis player. She has a career-high WTA singles ranking of world No. 51 and a doubles ranking of No. 32 achieved in May 2022 and 2023 respectively.

The 2021 Internazionali Femminili di Palermo was a professional women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Country Time Club. It was the 29th edition of the tournament and part of the 2021 WTA Tour. It took place in Palermo, Italy between 19 and 25 July 2021. First-seeded Danielle Collins won the singles title.

Kim Clijsters was the defending champion, having won the previous edition in 2002, but chose not to participate.

Paula Badosa defeated Barbora Krejčíková in the final, 6–3, 4–6, 7–6(7–4) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic. Krejčíková reached the final after having saved seven match points in her semifinal match against Anett Kontaveit.

Defending champion Iga Świątek defeated Ons Jabeur in the final, 6–2, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open. She did not drop a set during the tournament, and was the first player to win the title in Rome without dropping a set since Serena Williams in 2016. This was Świątek's fifth consecutive WTA Tour title, and she became the first player to win four WTA 1000 titles in a single season since Serena Williams in 2013. With the win, Świątek extended her winning streak to 28 matches – the longest on the WTA Tour since Serena Williams won 34 consecutive matches in 2013. This was also the first time in her professional career that Świątek defended a title. Jabeur was attempting to be the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win consecutive titles in Madrid and Rome; she reached the final after saving a match point in her semifinal match against Daria Kasatkina.

Yulia Putintseva was the defending champion, but was defeated in the semifinals by Aleksandra Krunić.

Irina-Camelia Begu defeated Lucia Bronzetti in the final, 6–2, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Internazionali Femminili di Palermo. It was her fifth career WTA Tour singles title, her first since 2017. Bronzetti was contesting her first career singles final.

Liudmila Samsonova defeated Zheng Qinwen in the final, 7–5, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Pan Pacific Open. She did not drop a set en route to her third title of the season. By reaching her first WTA Tour final as a 19-year-old, Zheng became the first Chinese teenager to contest a WTA singles final.

Belinda Bencic defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–0, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Adelaide International 2.

Donna Vekić defeated Caroline Garcia in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Monterrey Open. It was her fourth career WTA title.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Iga Świątek in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Madrid Open. It was her fifth WTA 1000 title. This marked the first time since 2013 that the top two seeds contested the Madrid Open final. It was also the first time since 2000 that the top two players on the WTA Tour contested back-to-back finals, after Świątek won in Stuttgart the week prior.

Elena Rybakina won the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Italian Open after Anhelina Kalinina retired from the final with the scoreline at 6–4, 1–0. It was Rybakina's second career WTA 1000 title. Rybakina won three of her six matches at the tournament via retirement: over Anna Kalinskaya in the third round, Iga Świątek in the quarterfinals, and Kalinina in the final. With the win, Rybakina entered the top five in the WTA rankings for the first time at world No. 4.

Iga Świątek defeated Maria Sakkari in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2024 Indian Wells Open. It was her eighth WTA 1000 and 19th career WTA Tour title, and she did not lose a set en route. Świątek became the first woman to win multiple titles at Indian Wells since Victoria Azarenka in 2016, and just the tenth woman to do so overall. She was the first player since Maria Sharapova in 2013 to win the title without dropping a set, and lost just 21 games throughout the entire tournament; this was the fewest since Steffi Graf lost 16 games in 1994. The final was a rematch of the 2022 final, which Świątek also won.

María Lourdes Carlé defeated Rebeka Masarova in the final, 3–6, 6–1, 6–2. to win the singles title at the 2024 Torneig Internacional de Tennis Femení Solgironès.

Sloane Stephens defeated Magda Linette in the final, 6–1, 2–6, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Open de Rouen. It was her eighth career WTA Tour singles title, and her first on red clay.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula in the final, 7–5, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2024 US Open. It was her third major singles title. Sabalenka was the first Belarusian to win the singles title, and the fifth player to win both hardcourt majors in the same calendar year, after Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis and Angelique Kerber. Sabalenka dropped only one set en route to the title, against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round.
