The 2021 Tour of Slovenia (Slovene : Dirka po Sloveniji) was the 27th edition of the Tour of Slovenia stage race that was held from 9 to 13 June 2021. [1] The 2.Pro-category race was initially scheduled to be a part of the inaugural edition of the UCI ProSeries, but after the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, [2] it made its UCI ProSeries debut in 2021, while also still being a part of the 2021 UCI Europe Tour. [3] This was second time Tour of Slovenia was participated by Tour de France winner, 2011 by Carlos Sastre and in 2021 by Tadej Pogačar.

Contents

The race was won for the first time by Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates. Pogačar first took the lead when he attacked on the climb of Svetina, the penultimate climb on stage 2. He proceeded to extend his lead to more than a minute on the way to the finish in Celje. He successfully defended his lead on the final three stages, including finishing second to his teammate, Diego Ulissi, on the queen stage to Nova Gorica. Total sum of prizes was 64,766 €. [4]

Four UCI WorldTeams, eight UCI ProTeams, seven UCI Continental teams, and the Slovenian national team made up the twenty teams that participated in the race. Astana–Premier Tech, with six riders, was the only team to not field a full squad of seven riders. Of the 139 riders to start the race, 117 finished. [5]

He won the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Tour de France, winning three different jerseys during each Tour, a feat unseen in nearly four decades. Comfortable in time-trialing, one-day classic riding and grand-tour climbing, he has been compared to legendary all-round cyclists such as Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Fausto Coppi.

Originally planned for the Danish capital of Copenhagen, the start of the 2021 Tour was transferred to Brest because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Copenhagen hosting four matches in the UEFA Euro 2020, which had also been rescheduled to 2021 because of the pandemic. Originally scheduled for 2 to 25 July 2021, the Tour was moved to 26 June to 18 July 2021 to avoid the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics. The 2021 season for UAE Team Emirates was the 23rd season in the team's existence and the fifth under the current name. The team has been a UCI WorldTeam since 2005, when the tier was first established.

The 2021 Tirreno–Adriatico was a road cycling stage race that took place between 10 and 16 March 2021 in Italy. It was the 56th edition of Tirreno–Adriatico and part of the 2021 UCI World Tour.

The 2021 Tour of the Basque Country was a road cycling stage race that took place between 5 and 10 April 2021 in the titular region in northern Spain. It was the 60th edition of the Tour of the Basque Country and the 13th race of the 2021 UCI World Tour.

The 2022 Tour de France was the 109th edition of the Tour de France. It started in Copenhagen, Denmark on 1 July 2022 and ended with the final stage on the Champs-Élysées, Paris on 24 July 2022. Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard won the general classification for the first time. Two-time defending champion Tadej Pogačar finished in second place, and former winner Geraint Thomas finished third. This was the first Tour since 1989 in which each of the three podium finishers had made the podium on a previous occasion.

The 2022 Tour of Slovenia was 28th edition of the Tour of Slovenia stage race scheduled between 15 and 19 June 2022. The 2.Pro-category race is a part of the UCI ProSeries. Tour was participated by defending Tour de France and Tour of Slovenia winner Tadej Pogačar and Matej Mohorič, first and sixth by UCI Men's road racing world ranking list.

The 2023 Tour of Slovenia was the 29th edition of the Tour of Slovenia stage race, held between 14 and 18 June 2023. The 2.Pro-category race is part of the UCI ProSeries. The race started in Celje. The tour consisted of five stages, with a total distance of 833.3 km and 9134 m of elevation gain. The total prizemoney was €70,775.
