2021 World Women's Handball Championship – European qualification

The European qualification for the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship, in Spain, was played over two rounds.

In the first round of qualification, 17 teams who were not participating at the 2020 European Championship were split into two groups of four and three groups of three teams. The top two teams of each group advanced to the second phase, where the teams joined the remaining 10 teams from the European Championship and played play-off games to determine the qualified teams.

Qualification phase 1

Seeding

The draw was held on 8 July 2020 in Vienna, Austria. [1] [2] The top two teams of each group advance to the play-off round. Each group will play their matches in a mini-tournament at a pre-selected location.

On 13 November 2020, the EHF decided to postpone the matches, scheduled for December 2020, to March 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3]

The European qualification for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship, in Denmark and Germany, was contested in two rounds among the teams that did not qualify for the 2018 European Men's Handball Championship and the 12 teams that did play this tournament but was not already qualified and failed to qualify through it.

The 2022 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 15th edition of the tournament and the second to feature 24 national teams. It was co-hosted in two countries – Hungary and Slovakia – from 13 to 30 January 2022. It was won by Sweden.

The 2022 European Men's Handball Championship qualification was a handball competition organized by the European Handball Federation (EHF) to determine 20 of the 24 men's national teams competing in the 2022 European Men's Handball Championship final tournament. They joined the other four teams already qualified: Hungary and Slovakia, as final tournament co-hosts, and Spain and Croatia, who finished in the top two positions in the previous championship. Those four played in the EHF Euro Cup.

The European qualification for the 2021 World Men's Handball Championship, in Egypt, would have been contested by the teams that did not qualify for the 2020 European Men's Handball Championship and the 20 teams that played the tournament but were not pre-qualified or failed to reach a qualifying ranking place. In total, 34 teams were competing for 10 places at the final tournament.
