The 2022 IHF Women's U20 Handball World Championship was the 23rd edition of the IHF Women's U20 Handball World Championship, held in Slovenia from 22 June to 3 July 2022 under the aegis of International Handball Federation (IHF). For the first time, the championship was organised by the Handball Federation of Slovenia. [1] The number of teams increased from 24 to 32. [2]
Norway won their second title after defeating Hungary in the final, while the Netherlands captured bronze after a win over Sweden. [3]
Two nations entered bid for hosting the tournament:
North Macedonia later withdrew their bid. The tournament was awarded to Slovenia by the IHF Council in its meeting held in Cairo, Egypt on 28 February 2020. [4]

The 2007 World Men's Handball Championship was the 20th edition of the tournament that took place from 19 January to 4 February 2007 in Germany. 24 national teams played in 12 German cities. It was the 20th edition of the World Championship in team handball and was won by the hosts.
The 2009 World Women's Handball Championship was the 19th edition, second to take place outside Europe, of the international championship tournament in women's team sport handball that is governed by the International Handball Federation (IHF). China hosted the event from 5-20 December 2009. Russia successfully contested France in the final, their fourth title.
The 2018 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the tournament, hosted for the second time in Croatia from 12 to 28 January 2018. Croatia was awarded hosting the tournament during the EHF congress in Dublin on 20 September 2014. This was the last edition to feature 16 teams, with the 2020 edition expanding to 24 teams and six preliminary groups format.
The qualification for the 2016 Men's Olympic Handball Tournament was held from January 2015 to April 2016. Twelve teams qualified, the hosts, the world champion, four continental event winners and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively.
The 2015 Men's Youth World Handball Championship was the sixth edition of the IHF Men's Youth World Championship, held in Yekaterinburg, Russia from 7 to 20 August 2015. France won their first title by defeating Slovenia 33–26 in the final.
The 2023 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 28th such event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It was held in Poland and Sweden from 11 to 29 January 2023.
The 2018 IHF Women's Junior World Championship was the 21st edition of the IHF Women's Junior World Championship that took place in Debrecen, Hungary from 1 to 14 July 2018.
The qualification for the 2020 Women's Olympic Handball Tournament assigned quota places to twelve teams: the hosts, the World champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Preliminary pool matches occurred at South Paris Arena 6, with the final phase staged at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille. The format remained the same since 2000 for the men and 2008 for the women, as twelve teams in two groups battle each other in the round robin, followed by the knockout matches for the top eight starting with the quarterfinals and ending with the final and bronze match.
