The 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament was played from May 19 to May 21, 2022 at Marty L. Miller Field on the campus of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. It was a four-team double elimination tournament. The winner, Coppin State, claimed the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. [2] [3]

It proved to be the last-ever MEAC tournament, at least for the foreseeable future. After the 2022 season, the MEAC merged its baseball league into that of the Northeast Conference (NEC), with the four remaining MEAC baseball schools becoming NEC affiliates. [4]

Format and seeding

The four teams were seeded one through four based on regular season records, with the top seed playing the fourth seed and the other two teams facing off in first-round matchups. The winners advanced in the winners' bracket, while first-round losers played elimination games.

Norfolk State Spartans baseball

The Norfolk State Spartans baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and is a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). Through the 2022 season, the Spartans had competed in the school's full-time home of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), but after that season, the MEAC merged its baseball league into that of the NEC. The 2020–21 Norfolk State Spartans men's basketball team represented Norfolk State University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by eighth-year head coach Robert Jones, played their home games at the Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall in Norfolk, Virginia as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. With the creation of divisions to cut down on travel due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they played in the Northern division. They finished the season 17–8, 8–4 in MEAC play to finish in tie for first place in the Northern division. They defeated North Carolina Central in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament and advanced to the championship when North Carolina A&T withdrew from the tournament due to COVID-19 protocols. They defeated Morgan State to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 16 seed in the West region. They defeated Appalachian State in the First Four, but were eliminated by No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga in the First Round.

The 2021–22 Norfolk State Spartans men's basketball team represented Norfolk State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by ninth-year head coach Robert Jones, played their home games at the Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall in Norfolk, Virginia as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 24–7, 12–2 in MEAC Play to finish as regular season champions. They defeated Delaware State, Morgan State, and Coppin State to win the MEAC Tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 16 seed in the East Region where they lost in the First Round to Baylor.

The 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season was a college baseball season in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level. It began on February 18, 2022, with play progressing through the regular season, various conference tournaments and championship series, and concluding with the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament and 2022 Men's College World Series. The Men's College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, ended on June 26, 2022.
