2023 Summit League Tournament winner

The 2022-23 Summit League men's basketball season started non-conference play on November 7, 2022, and began conference play on December 19, 2022. The regular season will end on February 25, 2023, and will set up the 2023 Summit League men's basketball tournament from March 3 to March 7, 2023.
Oral Roberts finished league play with a perfect 18-0 record, the second time that has happened in the Summit League's history and second year in a row a team has finished with a perfect league record (South Dakota State). In the postseason, Oral Roberts made the 2023 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as a 12 seed. They lost to Duke in the first round.

Conference Changes

Following last year's postseason tournament, the Summit League announced they would be expanding the tournament in future years to include all 10 teams. It will consist of an added day to the tournament with the 7 through 10 seeds competing for the typical 7 and 8 seed slots. [1]

Head Coaches

Coaching Changes

South Dakota

On March 16, 2022, Eric Peterson was announced as the new head coach of the Coyotes, [2] after former coach Todd Lee was let go. [3]

Omaha

On March 18, 2022, Chris Crutchfield was named head coach of the Mavericks, [4] after longtime coach Derrin Hansen was fired. [5]

Kansas City

On April 21, 2022, three-year Roos coach Billy Donlon left the program to be an associate head coach at Clemson. [6] Then on April 26, 2022, Marvin Menzies was announced to be the new head coach for Kansas City. [7]

The winner of the tournament receives the Summit League's automatic bid into the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. The tournament was first played in 1984, when the league was known as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (AMCU). The league was also known as the Mid-Continent Conference from 1989 to 2007, after which it was renamed to The Summit League.

The Omaha Mavericks women's basketball team, also called the Nebraska–Omaha Mavericks, represents the University of Nebraska Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The Mavericks compete in The Summit League and play in the new on-campus Baxter Arena, built prior to the 2015–16 season. The Mavericks are now eligible for the NCAA tournament, NIT, or Summit League Tournament, having completed the school's four-year transition from Division II to Division I, which began in the 2011–12 season.

The 2018–19 North Dakota State Bison men's basketball team represented North Dakota State University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bison, led by fifth-year head coach David Richman, played their home games at the Scheels Center in Fargo, North Dakota as members of the Summit League. They finished the season 19–16, 9–7 in Summit League play to finish in a tie for third place. As the No. 4 seed in the Summit League tournament, they defeated Oral Roberts, Western Illinois, and Omaha to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 16 seed in the East region. There the Bison lost to overall No. 1 seed Duke.

The 2020–21 Oral Roberts Golden Eagles women's basketball represent Oral Roberts University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Golden Eagles, led by ninth year head coach Misti Cussen, compete in the Summit League. They play home games in Mabee Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 2021–22 Summit League women's basketball season is scheduled to begin with practices in October 2021 followed by the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season in November 2021. The conference is scheduled to begin in December 2021. The 2021–22 South Dakota State Jackrabbits women's basketball represented South Dakota State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Jackrabbits, led by twenty-second year head coach Aaron Johnston, compete in the Summit League. They played their home games in Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota.

The 2021 Summit League men's soccer tournament was the postseason men's soccer tournament for the Summit League held on November 11 and 13, 2021. The three-match tournament took place at MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, Illinois. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Denver Pioneers were the defending champions after no tournament was held in 2020. Denver were champions in 2019. Denver successfully defended their title, defeating Oral Roberts in the final in a penalty shoot-out. The tournament win was Denver's seventh as a member of the conference, and the title was the fourth for head coach Jamie Franks. Denver has now won seven of the past eight Summit League tournaments. As tournament champions, Denver earned the Summit League's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

The 2022–23 North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team represents North Dakota State University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bison, led by 4th year head coach Jory Collins, play their home games at the Scheels Center, as members of the Summit League. After NDSU's win over St. Thomas on February 23, the Bison clinched their highest Division I win count since 2008. The Bison clinched the second seed in the Summit League tournament, the highest mark in a conference tournament since their Division II days.
