The 2023 CIS Games is the second edition of the CIS Games which took place in Belarus in 2023. [1] [2] Athletes from Russia and 8 other member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) competed in the games, [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] with athletes from other nations invited.

Preparation

On 24 March 2022, the organizing committee has been created in Belarus to hold the II Games of the CIS countries in 2023. [8]

1st edition: 1,139 athletes aged 14 to 23 years from 9 CIS countries.

2nd CIS Games 2,214 athletes from 22 countries. [9]

Joint CIS Air Defense System is a unified system that comprises air defense units and elements of the former Soviet republics under control of the Coordination Committee on Air Defense of the Council of Ministers of Defense of the CIS. Currently there are 6 de facto members of JADS: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. 70% of all expenditures of the military budget of the Commonwealth of Independent States are directed to the improvement and development of this system.

It took place from 4 to 11 September 2021 in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia and included athletes from all nine member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The slogan of the Games is "Our Strength Lies in the Commonwealth!"

University International Sports Festival was a regional sports event held Yekaterinburg, Russia from 19 August 2023 to 31 August 2023. 4,000 athletes aged 17 to 23 from 22 countries contested for 197 medal events across 14 sports. The event is also one of the main events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg.

CIS Games is a multi-sport event held among the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, meanwhile guest nations are invited in the second edition of the games, held in Minsk, Belarus. The first edition of the games is held in Kazan, Russia a year after postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Commonwealth of Independent States Agreement on the Establishment of a Free Trade Area (1994)</span>

The Agreement on the Establishment of a Free Trade Area is an international agreement on the intention to create a free trade regime in goods signed by 12 post-Soviet states on 15 April 1994, at a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of Heads of State in Moscow and entered into force on December 30, 1994. Article 1 indicated that this was "the first stage of the creation of the Economic Union", but on 2 April 1999 the countries agreed to remove this phrase from the agreement. Article 17 also confirmed the intention to conclude a free trade agreement in services.
