The 2024 North Dakota State Bison softball team was an American college softball team that represented North Dakota State University during the 2024 NCAA Division I softball season. The Bison were led by Darren Mueller in his twenty-third season, and played their home games at Tharaldson Park in Fargo, North Dakota. They compete in the Summit League.
The Bison finished the season with a 17–36 record overall, and a 4–14 record in the Summit League. They made the 2024 Summit League softball tournament as the sixth seed. The Bison were eliminated in the first round by third-seeded Kansas City. [2]

Previous season

The Bison finished the 2023 season with a 30–21 record, and a 13–8 record in Summit League play. NDSU played in the Summit League tournament as the third seed. They defeated Kansas City on day one, [3] but lost to Omaha [4] and South Dakota State [5] on day two to be eliminated before the semifinals for the third year in a row.

The Bison, led by fifth-year head coach David Richman, played their home games at the Scheels Center in Fargo, North Dakota as members of the Summit League. They finished the season 19–16, 9–7 in Summit League play, to finish in a tie for third place. As the No. 4 seed in the Summit League tournament, they defeated Oral Roberts, Western Illinois and Omaha to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 16 seed in the East region. There the Bison lost to overall No. 1 seed Duke.

The program began its first season in 1965 under head coach Collette Folstad. The current Bison head coach is Jennifer Lopez in her 8th season. Lopez took over after former coach Kari Thompson resigned after the 2016 season.

The 2019–20 North Dakota State Bison men's basketball team represented North Dakota State University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bison, led by sixth-year head coach David Richman, played their home games at the Scheels Center in Fargo, North Dakota as members of the Summit League. They finished the season 25–8, 13–3 in Summit League play to finish in a tie for the Summit League regular season championship. They defeated Denver, Oral Roberts, and North Dakota to become champions of the 2020 Summit League tournament. They earned the Summit League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, however, the tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 12-15, 2022. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament at Tharaldson Park on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
North Dakota State were the defending champions, since the 2020 season was cancelled midway through due to the COVID-19 pandemic. South Dakota State won the tournament after beating Omaha in the final game. This was the Jacks' first Summit League title, and earned the league's automatic berth to the 2021 NCAA Division I softball tournament.

The 2019 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 8–11, 2019. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament at the Ellig Sports Complex on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
North Dakota State was the defending champion, and successfully defended their title following their defeat of second-seeded South Dakota in the final round. This was the tenth Summit League title for the Bison, who earned the Summit League's automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division I softball tournament with the tournament title.

The Bison finished the year with a 5–6–6 overall record and a 1–3–4 conference record good enough to finish just outside the 6-team Summit League tournament field.

The 2023–24 North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team represented North Dakota State University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bison, led by fifth year head coach Jory Collins, played their home games at the Scheels Center, as members of the Summit League.
NDSU made the 2024 Summit League women's basketball tournament as the 2 seed for the second year in a row, and after beating Denver and Oral Roberts in the quarterfinals and semifinals - they achieved 20 wins for the first time since 2004. The Bison would make their first Summit League title game, falling to South Dakota State.
North Dakota State made the 2024 Women's National Invitation Tournament as an at-large team, and received a first round bye. They defeated Montana in the second round in their first home postseason game since 2000, which was their first postseason win in the Division I era. The Bison would fall in the WNIT Super 16 to Minnesota.

The Bison finished the season with a 20–30–1 overall record and a 14–12–1 record, which was good for third in the Summit League. NDSU made the Summit League tournament as the second seed, since regular season winner St. Thomas was ineligible, and played Oral Roberts in the first round. The Bison would fall to the Golden Eagles, defeat top-seeded Omaha in the first elimination game, but fell to Northern Colorado in extra innings in the second elimination game.
