On June 15, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas, U.S., two people were killed and at least fourteen people were injured in a shooting at Old Settlers Park during a Juneteenth festival, which featured performances from artists such as Sean Ardoin and Paul Wall. Tensions escalated to gunfire after two groups opened fire on each other. [1] [2] Two women, one aged 33 and one aged 54, were killed. Police suspect they had no known involvement in any altercation that lead up to the shooting, and were most likely innocent bystanders.

On June 20, a 17-year-old Manor, Texas male was arrested in connection with the shooting. [3] He is being held at the Williamson County Jail, without bond. This suspect, surnamed Thompson, admitted in an affidavit that he fired three shots in the direction of a victim, striking the victim in the leg. He faces aggravated assault charges. [4]

The following day, another teenager was arrested. 17-year-olds are considered adults legally in Texas, and can face life imprisonment for murder.

Three people were killed and two others were injured in the shooting before the perpetrator, 20-year-old Jonathan Sapirman, was fatally shot by 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, a legally-armed civilian bystander.

On August 28, 2022, a 19-year-old man allegedly opened fire in Detroit, Michigan, United States, randomly killing three people on the city's streets over a span of two hours and fifteen minutes. A fourth person and a dog were injured. Each person was shot in separate locations, and had no known connection to the shooter nor any known gang affiliation. The suspected shooter was apprehended at his house in Detroit about 14 hours later, and was formally charged two days later.

The Stockton serial shootings were a series of fatal shootings that occurred in Stockton and Oakland, California, between April 2021 and September 2022. The shootings have been linked together by ballistic tests, but police have not revealed if the same gun was used in every shooting. On October 15, 2022, a Stockton man, Wesley Brownlee, was arrested in connection to the shootings. On December 27, Brownlee was charged with an additional five charges.

On January 21, 2024, a gunman opened fire on three separate occasions in and around Joliet, Illinois. A total of eight people were killed, and one person was injured. The perpetrator, 23-year-old Romeo Nance, who was related to seven of the victims, fatally shot himself a day later after being confronted by law enforcement officials near Natalia, Texas. It is the deadliest mass shooting in Illinois history, surpassing the shootings in Highland Park and Palatine. It is also the deadliest mass shooting of 2024 currently.
