The 2024 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament was the last qualifying tournament for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The event was held from 9 to 12 May 2024, in Istanbul, Turkey. Israeli wrestlers did not travel to Istanbul due to security concerns. [1] The tournament awarded three quota places per weight category, one for each of the two highest-ranked wrestlers and one for the winner of the match between the two bronze medalists. [2]

At the 1996 Summer Olympics, two different wrestling disciplines were contested: freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, 20 wrestling events were contested, for men only. There were 10 weight classes in each of the freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling disciplines.
The 2011 World Wrestling Championships was held at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey. The event took place between September 12 and September 18, 2011.
Wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 14 to 21 August at the Carioca Arena 2 in Barra da Tijuca. Wrestling had been split into two disciplines, freestyle and Greco-Roman, which were further divided into different weight categories. Men competed in both disciplines whereas women only participated in the freestyle events, with 18 gold medals awarded.
