The Belgium women's national basketball team qualified for the Olympics by finishing in the top two eligible nations at the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Antwerp. [5]

Boxing

Belgium entered three boxers into the Olympic tournament for the first time since Barcelona 1992. Romanian-born Vasile Usturoi (men's featherweight), with Oshin Derieuw (women's welterweight) slated to become the country's first female boxer in history at the Games, secured the spots on the Belgian squad in their respective weight divisions by advancing to the semifinal match at the 2023 European Games in Nowy Targ, Poland. [9] Victor Schelstraete (men's heavyweight) secured his spot following the triumph in quota bouts round, at the 2024 World Olympic Qualification Tournament 2 in Bangkok, Thailand. [10]

Canoeing

Sprint

Belgium qualified a boat in the Men's K-1 1000 m and the Women's K-2 500 m for the Games by finishing sixth resp. fourth at the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany. [11] [12] Both athletes having secured a quota place in the Women's K-2 500 m are eligible to compete in the Women's K-1 500 m. [13]

Belgium entered a full team of eight road cyclists (four per gender). Belgium qualified four male athletes by finishing 1st in the UCI Nation Ranking, while the women qualified four athletes, by finishing 3rd. [14]

Track

Results from the final leg of the 2024 UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup events in Milton ensured that the Belgium men's team pursuit team could not finish below tenth overall in the team pursuit world rankings, and were thus guaranteed a quota in all three men's track endurance events in Paris. [15] The Belgium women's madison team secured a quota for the women's madison and omnium by securing a top 5 place in the 2022–2024 UCI Track Olympic Ranking of NOC's not having obtained a quota via the team pursuit world rankings [16] and two quota for the women's sprint and keirin tournaments by a top 7 place in the 2022–2024 UCI Track Olympic Ranking of NOC's not having obtained a quota via the team sprint world rankings. [17]

Mountain biking

Belgian mountain bikers qualified for two men's quota places into the Olympic cross-country race, as a result of the nation's seventh-place-finish for men in the biennial UCI Mountain Bike Olympic Qualification period ranking; [18] and for one women's quota place as a result of the re-allocation of unused quota places.

Equestrian

Belgium entered a full squad of equestrian riders to the dressage competition by finishing 8th at the 2023 FEI European Dressage Championships in Riesenbeck, Germany, picking up one of the three qualifying spots on offer at the event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with six of the top 8 teams already qualifying earlier in the 2022 FEI World Championships. Belgium entered a full squad of equestrian riders to the eventing competition by finishing 7th at the 2023 European Eventing Championships in Le Pin-au-Haras, France, picking up one of the two qualifying spots on offer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. [21] Belgium entered a full squad of equestrian riders to the jumping competition by winning the gold medal at the 2022 Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona, Spain. [22]

The Belgium team was disqualified from the Eventing team competition of the Paris Olympic Games after an adverse analytical finding (AAF) involving an equine prohibited substance was returned for Tine Magnus' horse. [23]

Fencing

For the first time since the nation's last participation at the 2016 games in Rio, Belgium entered one fencer into the Olympic competition. Neisser Loyola secured his quota place in men's individual épée event as one of two highest ranked individual fencers, eligible for the European zone through the release of the FIE Individual Adjusted Official Ranking for Paris 2024.

Belgium entered three golfers into the Olympic tournament. Thomas Detry, Adrien Dumont de Chassart, and Manon De Roey; all qualified for the games, to compete in the individual competitions, based on their own position inside the top 60 eligible players on the IGF World Rankings. [31]

Gymnastics

Artistic

Belgium's men team earned the right to send an individual gymnast to the Games by finishing as one of the three strongest non-qualified nations at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Luka Van den Keybus also officially booked his Olympic ticket at the same championships as one of the highest-ranked eight All-Around gymnasts who did not have a pathway to Paris as part of a qualified team. [32] Noah Kuavita earned the one available individual Paris 2024 quota spot for the parallel bars at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. [33] Nina Derwael booked her Olympic ticket for the Women's artistic individual all-around competition by winning one of the two 2024 quota places destined for the top two eligible gymnasts on balance beam at the conclusion of the 2024 FIG Apparatus World Cup series. [34] Maellyse Brassart joins the Belgian squads by becoming the highest ranked eligible gymnast, through the 2024 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rimini, Italy.

Table tennis

For the first time since 2012, Belgium entered two table tennis players into Paris 2024. Martin Allegro and Cedric Nuytinck secured a spot through the International Table Tennis Federation World Singles Ranking list of June 18, 2024, both in the men's single classes. [41]

Belgium competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the nation's official debut in 1900, Belgian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ireland at the 2020 Summer Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

The team of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, which competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, represented athletes from both the Republic of Ireland and those from Northern Ireland who choose it instead of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the team's twenty-second appearance at the Summer Olympics, having attended every edition since 1924 except the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany.

South Africa competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. It was the nation's ninth consecutive appearance at the Games in the post-apartheid era and twenty-first overall in Summer Olympic history. South Africa won six medals, good for 44th overall in the standings.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Great Britain at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

Great Britain, the team of the British Olympic Association (BOA) which represents the United Kingdom, competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The delegation of 327 athletes included 172 women and 155 men and featured 73 medallists from previous Games. The team was made up of athletes from the whole United Kingdom including Northern Ireland. Additionally some British overseas territories compete separately from Britain in Olympic competition.

Australia competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics at Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Australian athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, alongside France, Great Britain, Greece, and Switzerland. As Brisbane will stage the 2032 Summer Olympics, Australia and the United States, the next nation to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, marched before the homebound French team entering the Place du Trocadéro during the parade of nations segment of the opening ceremony.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Germany at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

Germany participated at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. It was the nation's eighteenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympic Games, except for 1920 and 1924 due to the nation's role in World War I, and 1948 for the nation's role in World War II. From 1956 through 1964, Germans competed as part of the United Team of Germany (UTG); in 1968, the team was split into two teams West Germany and East Germany. West Germany boycotted the 1980 games as part of the American-led boycott, and then returned in 1984. East Germany boycotted the 1984 games as part of the Soviet-led boycott, and in 1988, East Germany returned for the last time. One year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, West and East Germany re-united as one country with their reunification in 1990, and it has participated in every Summer Olympics since 1992 games in Barcelona.

Japan, the previous host of the 2020 Olympics at Tokyo, competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Japanese athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games from 1912 onwards, except for two occasions: the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, to which they were not invited because of the nation's role in World War II, and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, due to their participation in the United States-led boycott.

Ireland competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 24 July to 11 August 2024, commemorating its centenary of the team's debut as an independent country in the same venue. Irish athletes have competed in every Summer Olympics edition of the modern era, either in its own right or as part of a Great Britain and Ireland team before 1924, except for the Berlin 1936 Olympics.

Chile competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Since the nation's debut in 1896, Chilean athletes have appeared in all but five editions of the Summer Olympics of the modern era. Chile did not attend the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of the worldwide Great Depression and was also part of the US-led boycott, when Moscow hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Cuba competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. It was the nation's twenty-second appearance at the Summer Olympics. The 2024 Cuban delegation was smaller than their 2020 delegation, which was previously their smallest delegation since 1964. It was also the second time since 1964 that the Cuban delegation had fewer than one hundred athletes.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Czech Republic at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

The Czech Republic, officially named Czechia by the IOC, competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Czech athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for three occasions: Athens 1896, St. Louis 1904 and Los Angeles 1984 as part of the Soviet boycott. It is the nation's eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics after splitting from the former Czechoslovakia.

However, China did not participate in the next seven games: 1956; the nation was absent in 1960 and 1964 over a dispute with Taiwan; 1968; 1972 due to issues with GANEFO; 1976 due to Republic of China boycott; and 1980, joining the US led boycott. The nation has participated in every Olympics since the 1984 Summer Olympics.
