Aman Sehrawat (born 16 July 2003) [2] is an Indian freestyle wrestler. He is the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal, having secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. [3] Sehrawat has also won gold at U17 Asian Championships, U17 World Championships, U23 Asian Championships, U23 World Championships, and the Asian Wrestling Championships. [4]
Sehrawat was born on 16 July 2003 in the village of Birohar, Haryana, where he initially took part in mud wrestling. Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win in the 2012 Summer Olympics, he enrolled at the Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi at the age of 10. [5] [6] He lost both of his parents at the age of 11. Following their deaths, Sehrawat and his younger sister, Puja, were taken in by their uncles. His Uncle Sudhir revealed in an interview with Hindustan Times that Aman struggled with depression and anxiety after his mother's death. However, his fortunes began to change with his training at Chhatrasal Stadium. [7]
Aman Sehrawat began his wrestling training at North Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, a renowned training ground for emerging wrestling talent. There, he trained under Coach Lalit Kumar. [8] In 2022, following his gold medal at the Under-23 Asian Championships, Sehrawat became the first-ever Indian to win a gold medal at the Under-23 World Championships. [9]
Sehrawat won his first National Championship title in 2021. He used to train under coach Lalit Kumar. [5]
In April 2023, he won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships in Astana. [10] [11] He then won a bronze medal in the 57 kg category at the 2022 Asian Games. [6] [12]
In January 2024, he won the gold medal in the men's 57kg event at the Zagreb Open wrestling tournament, defeating all his opponents by technical superiority. [13]
Sehrawat competed at the 2024 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul and earned India a quota place for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. [14] The WFI picked him over Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya for the 2024 Olympics. [15] He was the only Indian male wrestler to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [16]
In the men's 57 kg event at the 2024 Olympics, he defeated Vladimir Egorov and Zelimkhan Abakarov via technical superiority, before losing to the top-seed Rei Higuchi in the semifinal. [17] He won the bronze medal by defeating Darian Cruz 13–5, becoming the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal at 21 years and 24 days. [18] [19]

India first participated at the Olympic Games in 1900, becoming the first Asian nation to do so. Norman Pritchard represented the country and won two medals, both silver, in athletics. Sushil Kumar is a former Indian wrestler and two-time Olympic medallist. In July 2009, he received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna – India's highest honour for sportspersons. On 3 October 2010, Kumar handed the Queen's Baton to Prince Charles in the Queen's Baton Relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. He carried the Indian flag at the opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympics. Sushil won the gold medal in the 74 kg division at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Sushil won the gold medal in the 74 kg division at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is the first and only Indian to win a gold medal at World Wrestling Championships.

Vinesh Phogat is an Indian politician and former wrestler, who is a current member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Haryana. She won the 2024 assembly election from Julana constituency representing the Indian National Congress. Previously as a wrestler, she was a multiple-gold medalist of Commonwealth Games, with her wins in 2014, 2018, and 2022.
Sakshi Malik is a former Indian freestyle wrestler. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. In 2017, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian award and in 2024, she became the first Indian wrestler to feature in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. She is a part of the JSW Sports Excellence Program, along with fellow female wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.
Abhishek Verma is an Indian archer. At the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea, he won the gold medal in the men's compound archery team event along with Rajat Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar, and the silver medal in the men's individual compound event. On 15 August 2015, he won a gold medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Wroclaw, Poland. On 25 October 2015, he won the silver medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Final in Mexico city.

Amit Panghal is the reigning Asian Games champion and a world championships silver-medalist Asian Elite Boxing Championships Panghal failed to defend his gold medal, that he won in 2019, against reigning Olympic and world champion Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan to finish second-best in Dubai.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya, also known as Ravi Kumar or Ravi Dahiya, is an Indian freestyle wrestler who won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 57 kg category. Dahiya is also a bronze medallist from 2019 World Wrestling Championships and a three-time Asian champion. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, he won the gold medal in the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling category.
