Times of India Sports Awards, also known as TOISA, are annual sports awards given by The Times of India to Indian athletes. [1] The aim is to celebrate excellence achieved by the players in sports. [2] The first edition of the awards ceremony was hosted in 2015. [3]

He becomes India's most decorated Paralympic player by winning his third medal, a silver at the 2020 Summer Paralympics at Tokyo. In 2024, he was elected president of the Paralympic Committee of India.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Harika Dronavalli</span> Indian chess grandmaster (born 1991)

Harika Dronavalli is an Indian chess player who holds the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM). She was part of the gold winning women's team at the 45th Chess Olympiad in 2024. She has won three bronze medals in the Women's World Chess Championship, in 2012, 2015 and 2017. Harika was honored with the Arjuna Award for the year 2007–08 by the government of India. In 2016, she won the FIDE Women's Grand Prix event at Chengdu, China and rose up from world no. 11 to world no. 5 in FIDE women's ranking. In 2019, she was awarded the Padma Shri for her contributions towards the field of sports.

India has a history of sports dating back to the Vedic period, with Western sports having been imported during British rule. Cricket is the most popular spectator sport; it generates the highest television viewership, with the Indian Premier League (IPL) being the most-followed league in the country. Football has also gained popularity, with the Indian Super League (ISL) being the highest level of domestic football, and the national team winning multiple gold medals at the Asian and South Asian Games. Additional football accomplishments include India having reached the Groupstage of the 1960 Olympics, qualified for the 1950 FIFA World Cup, and won the SAFF Championship. Other sports include kabaddi, badminton, tennis, and athletics, with kho-kho becoming the fourth-most viewed sport. India has also had success in field hockey, winning the World Cup and multiple medals in the Olympic Games. Sports such as golf, rugby, boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, motorsport, wrestling, and basketball are featured throughout the country.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pro Kabaddi League</span> Kabaddi tournament in India

Pro Kabaddi League or abbreviated to PKL is an Indian men's professional Kabaddi league. It was launched in 2014 and is broadcast on Star Sports. It is the most popular kabaddi league in the world. It is also the second most watched sports league in India after the Indian Premier League (IPL). Puneri Paltan are the current champions of PKL.

The GoSports Foundation (GSF) is an independent, donor-funded non-profit venture working towards securing funds and professional expertise for some of India's junior Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Established in 2008, it has worked with numerous athletes from across multiple Olympic and Paralympic disciplines through its scholarship programs.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Neeraj Chopra</span> Indian javelin thrower (born 1997)

Subedar Major Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete. Considered as the greatest Indian javelin thrower, he's a double medalist at the Olympics, World Championships, and the Asian Games. He has won the Diamond League once. Chopra won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Asian javelin throw athlete to do so. He became the first Asian to win a gold in javelin at the World Championships after his win in 2023. Chopra has won gold medals in every major tournament. He has a podium finish streak in 24 consecutive competitions, dating back to 2020. Since his performance at the 2016 World U20 Championship, he continues to hold the junior javelin throw world record.

Dharmendra "Tinu" Suresh Desai is an Indian film director. Tinu Suresh Desai was born on 28 August 1974 in Mumbai Maharashtra, India in a Gujarati-speaking family, his birth name is Dharmendra. He is a son of production manager Suresh Desai, who is known for films like Sholay, Shaan and Seeta aur Geeta. Tinu Desai has started his career in the film industry as assistant director with 1997 film Zameer: The Awakening of a Soul, later he worked as the chief assistant and associate director for films like Arjun Pandit, Anari No. 1 and Players. In 2016, Desai made his directorial debut with 1920 London starring Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra.

Khelo India Youth Games are the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India held in January or February for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students. Every year best 1,000 kids will be given an annual scholarship of 5 lakh (US$6,000) for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events.

Abhay Singh is an Indian squash player. He's an Asian Games gold and bronze medalist and a triple gold medalist at the Asian Championships. Singh is also a silver and bronze medalist at the South Asian Games. As of Nov 2024, he is ranked 54th in the world.

Anish Bhanwala is an Indian pistol shooter who competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol, and 25 meter standard pistol events. He has been a part of the Indian shooting team since 2017. He represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 Asian Games, ISSF Junior World Championship 2017 (Suhl), Commonwealth Shooting Championships 2017 (Brisbane), World Shooting Championships 2018 and numerous ISSF Senior and Junior World Cups and South Asian Games, Kathmandu.

India competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September. Neeraj Chopra was the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Rani Rampal was named as the flag bearer for the closing ceremony.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is the premier governing body of wrestling in India. It is headquartered in New Delhi and affiliated to the United World Wrestling (UWW), which makes it the internationally recognized wrestling regulation body of India. Currently headed by Sanjay Singh, the key role of the body is to organize the training and support of wrestlers across India for both domestic as well as international wrestling events. It also regulates wrestling in India as all other state-level wrestling federations across the country fall under its jurisdiction.

Avani Lekhara is an Indian rifle shooter. She is a double gold medalist at the Paralympics having won the 10m rifle event the 2020 Paralympics as well as the 2024 Paralympics. She made history by winning two back-to-back golds. She also won the bronze in the 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event at the 2020 Games, thus being the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at a single Paralympic Games. Lekhara is a two-time gold and one-time silver medalist at the Para World Cup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sumit Antil</span> Indian javelin thrower

Sumit Antil is an Indian javelin thrower. He is a double gold medalist at the Paralympics, having won the men's javelin throw F64 event at the 2020 Paralympics and the 2024 Paralympics. He set a new Paralympic record both times with his throws of 68.55 m and 70.59 m. He is a two-time gold medalist at the World Para Championships. In 2022, Antil not only won the gold medal at the Asian Para Games but also made the para-javelin WR of 73.29 m. He is a six-time world record holder.

Anahat Singh is an Indian squash player. She's an Asian Games double-bronze medalist. Singh is ranked 90th in the women's world ranking, as of November 2024. She has been the youngest national champion, the youngest Indian to win a medal at the Asian Games, and the youngest athlete to represent the nation at the Commonwealth Games.

Divyakriti Singh is an Indian equestrienne. She won a gold medal in team event in Equestrian Dressage at the 2022 Asian Games held at Hangzhou, China. She is the first Indian woman to be conferred the Arjuna Award in Equestrian for outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2023 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports by the Government of India. Divyakriti has been appointed as the Election Icon for Rajasthan by the Election Commission of India. She has won Times of India Sports Awards (2023) Equestrian Rider of the Year.

Neeraj Yadav is an Indian Paralympian and javelin thrower. He primarily competes in discus,shotput and javelin at Asian Para Games in the F55 category. He won Gold at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia and defended it at the 2022 Asian Para Games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sheetal Devi</span> Indian para-archer (born 2007)

Sheetal Devi is an Indian para-archer. She won a bronze medal in the mixed team compound event at the 2024 Paralympics, becoming the youngest Indian Paralympian medalist. She won two gold medals and one silver at the 2022 Asian Para Games. Devi won a silver medal at the World Para Archery Championship, as well as a gold and a silver at the Asian Para Archery Championships. She is a recipient of the Arjuna Award and was ranked first in the para world archery rankings in 2023.
