Sumit Antil (born 7 June 1998) [1] is an Indian paralympian and javelin thrower. He won gold medals in men's javelin throw F64 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics [2] and the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships. He holds the current world record, having thrown 73.29 meters at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. [3]

Early life and education

Sumit Antil was born in Khewra, Sonipat, Haryana, to Niramala Devi and Ram Kumar Antil. His father, employed in Indian Air Force, passed away when he was seven. His mother supported him to take up sports after his accident. He has three sisters, Kiran, Sushila & Renu. [1] He was born in Antil clan, a sub-clan of Tomar Jats. [4] Young Sumit wanted to pursue a career in wrestling and join Indian Army. [5] [6] In 2015, when he was 17, his motorbike was hit by a speeding truck while he was returning home from a tuition class. As a result, his left leg was amputated and he had to abandon his dream of becoming a wrestler. Sumit was later supported by the GoSports Foundation [7] through the Para Champions Programme. After completing his secondary education in Dev Rishi Senior Secondary School, Sonipat, Antil was introduced to Para athletics by another para athlete, Rajkumar, while he was pursuing his B.Com from Ramjas college of Delhi University. Career

In 2017, Antil started training under Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi, and competed in various National and International platforms. He began competing at javelin on the National circuit and GoSports inducted him into the Para Champions Programme in 2019.[ citation needed ]

In 2019, at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy, he broke the world record in the F64 category en route to winning the Silver medal in the Combined Event. He then won the Silver medal at World Para Athletics Championships, Dubai, 2019 and in the process broke his own world record in the F64 category. [9] [10]

On 30 August 2021, Antil won a gold medal with a World Record throw of 68.55m in javelin throw F64 at 2020 Summer Paralympics. [11] Competing in the Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships, Antil rewrote the world record for the fourth time in a year with a throw of 68.62 meters, breaking his own mark of 68.55 meters. Three of these marks were astonishingly set during the final of the Tokyo paralympics en route to winning gold.

She has undertaken an 8-day, 1,700-km drive in sub-zero temperatures which included a climb to 18,000 feet (5,500 m). It was – Raid De Himalaya. This journey covers many difficult paths including remote Himalayas, Leh, Shimla and Jammu.

Annu Rani Dharayan is an Indian javelin thrower from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. She was the first Indian to reach the finals of the women's javelin throw event in the World Athletics Championships, Doha, 2019. Annu had qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics through world rankings after missing out on the Olympic Qualification mark. Her career best effort is 63.24m which helped her win the gold in the National Interstate Athletic Championship, Patiala, 2021.In the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Annu Rani scripted history as she became the first Indian female javelin thrower to win a medal, a bronze. She is the first Indian Javelin thrower to win a Gold medal in Asian games 2023 at Hangzhou.

The GoSports Foundation (GSF) is an independent, donor-funded non-profit venture working towards securing funds and professional expertise for some of India's junior Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Established in 2008, it has worked with numerous athletes from across multiple Olympic and Paralympic disciplines through its scholarship programs.

Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete, who is the reigning Olympic champion and World champion in Men's javelin throw. He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin and the first Asian to win gold in his event at the World Championship. A Junior Commissioned Officer Subedar (JCO) in the Indian Army, Chopra is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from India to win at the World Under-20 Championships, where in 2016 he achieved a world U20 record throw of 86.48 m, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record.

Sundar Singh Gurjar is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower, shot putter and discus thrower competing in F46 events. He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event. He set a world record at the 16th Para Athletics National Championship in Panchkula holding three gold medals in three events. He is also recipient of Arjuna Award for Para-athletics.

Herath Mudiyansalage Dinesh Priyantha, also simply known as Dinesh Priyantha, is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete who competes in javelin T46 events. He also served as an important member for the Sri Lanka Army during the Sri Lankan Civil War. He was disabled after being shot at his left arm during the final stages of the war. He is the defending Paralympic champion in men's javelin throw F46 category. On 30 August 2021, he became the first ever Sri Lankan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics when he won the men's javelin throw F46 category. He is the current Paralympic and World record holder in men's javelin throw for F46 category.

He is pursuing his PhD in physical education and sports from LNIPE Gwalior. He made his Paralympic debut representing India at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Michal Burian is a Czech-born Australian Paralympic javelin thrower. He won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Two years later, he secured another silver medal at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships. In both competitions, his achievements were clinched during the final round with a clutch throw, proving Burian's ability to perform under pressure.

Nishad Kumar is an Indian paralympian and high jumper. He made his first Paralympic Games appearance in 2020 Tokyo representing India and went onto claim silver medal in the men's high jump T47 category with a new Asian record of 2.06m. In the 2022 Asian Para Games, he won a gold medal in the men's high jump T47 at Hangzhou, China.

Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku, also known as Samitha Dulan, is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete. He made his first Paralympic appearance representing Sri Lanka at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Navdeep Singh is an Indian Paralympian and javelin thrower. He finished fourth in men's javelin throw F41 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Neeraj Yadav is an Indian Paralympian and javelin thrower. He primarily competes in discus,shotput and javelin at Asian Para Games in the F55 category. He won Gold at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia and defended it at the 2022 Asian Para Games.

Nimisha Suresh Chakkungalparambil is an Indian para-athlete from Kerala. She competes in the women's T47 long jump event. and women's T47 long jump events. She was selected for the Indian team that took part in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games. She won the T47 long jump gold medal on 25 October 2023.

Lalitha Killaka is a para athlete from Andhra Pradesh. She was part of the Indian team at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. She won a silver medal finishing second behind Rakhitha Raju in the women 1500m T11 on 25 October 2023.
