Simran Sharma (born 9 November 1999) is a visually-impaired para-athlete [1] from Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh. She qualified to represent India in the 2024 Summer Paralympics and won a bronze medal in the Women's 200 m T12 final on 7 September 2024. [2] In the Women's 100 m T12, she qualified first in her heat with a season's best of 12.33s but could only finish 4th in the finals despite a better time of 12.31 s. [3] [4]

Early life and education

Sharma is from Burari, Delhi. [4] She was born to Savita Sharma and Manoj Sharma. On 29 November 2017, she married her coach Naik Gajendra Singh. He is posted at New Delhi's 227 company of the Army Service Corps. [1] She was born prematurely after six and half months term and with visual impairment. She was in incubator for six months. Her father Manoj Sharma supported her to take up the sport. She trains at SAI JLN Stadium, New Delhi. [4] She is doing her graduation at Rukmani Modi Mahila Inter College at Modinagar, Ghaziabad. Career

Sharma took part in China Grand Prix and World Para Grand Prix at Dubai in 2021. She became the first Indian para athlete to qualify for the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, but she did not get any medal. [6] She was selected to represent the Indian team at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China [7] where she won two silver medals in the 100m and 200m T12 events. [8] [9] At the Asian Games, she clocked 12.68 seconds for 100m on 24 October 2023 and 26.12 seconds for 200m on 26 October 2023. [6] [10]

In May 2024, she won a gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan. [5]

Bhagyashree Jadhav is a para athlete from Maharashtra. She was part of the Indian para team for the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. She won a silver medal in shot put F34 category. She threw a distance of 7.54 metres. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, her second Paralympics. She is named as the flagbearer for India at the Paris Paralympics opening ceremony along with Sumit Antil.

Dhinidhi Desinghu is an Indian swimmer from Karnataka. She specialises in 200m freestyle. She also competes in 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics at Paris in the women's 200m freestyle event as she received a University Quota place. She will be India's youngest athlete at Paris. She was also the youngest Indian athlete at the 2022 Asian Games.

Lahja Ishitile is a Namibian Paralympic T11 track and field athlete.

Anita is an Indian para rower from Rajasthan. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Paralympics along with Narayana Konganapalle at the World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Olympic and Paralympic Qualification 2024. She won a silver medal in the PR3 mixed doubles sculls earlier, along with Narayana, at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.

Pooja Ojha is an Indian para athlete from Madhya Pradesh who competes in canoeing. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in the canoeing women's KL1 event. India earned quota places for the following events through the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany; and 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Earlier, she represented India at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.

Rajni Jha is an Indian para athlete from Madhya Pradesh who competes in canoeing. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in the canoeing women's KL2 event, earning India a quota place but her name was missing in the final list. India also qualified through the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany; and 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Sarita Adhana is an Indian paralympic archer. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris in the women's Individual compound event of Archery competitions. She lost in the quarterfinals at Paris Paralympics.

Ashok KumarMalik is an Indian para powerlifter from Haryana who qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris and finished sixth. He won silver medals in the Para Powerlifting World Cup, in Egypt in March 2024 to clinch an Olympic berth for India.
