Preethi Pal (born 22 September 2000) is an Indian para athlete. [2] She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics in the women's 100m and 200m T35 race events and created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in track and field events at Paralympic Games. [3]

Early life

Pal is from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. She had cerebral palsy during her childhood, and she could not get proper treatment at Meerut. She trains in Delhi under coach Gajendra Singh, who is also the coach of Simran Sharma. [4]

Career

In May 2024, she won a bronze at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, and clinched an Olympic quota, clocking 30.49 sec in the women's T35 200m event. [5] She missed a medal twice by a close margin at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China. [4] [6] Earlier in March 2024, she won two gold in the domestic 6th Indian Open Para Athletics Championships at Bangalore. [7]

In 2024, she qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris [4] and won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m T35 class. She clocked a personal best time of 14.21 seconds. [8]

Later, Shanshan was disqualified and Raju was promoted to take the gold medal. She clocked 5 minutes, 21.45 seconds. Being a visually handicapped runner, Rakshitha completed the race with the help of a guide Rahul Balakrishna.

Simran Sharma is a visually-impaired para-athlete from Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh. She qualified to represent India in the 2024 Summer Paralympics and won a bronze medal in the Women's 200 m T12 final on 7 September 2024. In the Women's 100 m T12, she qualified first in her heat with a season's best of 12.33s but could only finish 4th in the finals despite a better time of 12.31 s.

Bhagyashree Jadhav is a para athlete from Maharashtra. She was part of the Indian para team for the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. She won a silver medal in shot put F34 category. She threw a distance of 7.54 metres. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, her second Paralympics. She is named as the flagbearer for India at the Paris Paralympics opening ceremony along with Sumit Antil.

Dhinidhi Desinghu is an Indian swimmer from Karnataka. She specialises in 200m freestyle. She also competes in 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics at Paris in the women's 200m freestyle event as she received a University Quota place. She will be India's youngest athlete at Paris. She was also the youngest Indian athlete at the 2022 Asian Games.

Pooja Ojha is an Indian para athlete from Madhya Pradesh who competes in canoeing. She qualified for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in the canoeing women's KL1 event. India earned quota places for the following events through the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany; and 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Earlier, she represented India at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.

Nihal Singh is an Indian para shooter from Rajasthan. He competes in the P3 25m pistol individual event in SH1 category. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris. Despite his quota berth in 50m pistol event being surrendered due to new limitation of quotas per country in each category, he made it to the Paralympics in the P3 25 m pistol SH1 event and also played the mixed event. He finished 10th with a score of 569 in the qualification round and missed the finals. In the P4 50 m pistol SH1 event, he scored 522 and finished 19th in the qualification round.

Sakshi Kasana is an Indian para athlete from Uttar Pradesh. She competes in the women's discus throw F55 category. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris.

Amisha Rawat is an Indian para athlete from Uttarakhand. She competes in the shot put F46 category. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris.

Guo Qianqian is a Chinese T35 Paralympic sprint runner. She represented China at the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
