Pranav Soorma (born 1994) is an Indian para-athlete. He won the silver medal in the men's club throw F51 event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. He also won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games. [1] At the event, he set an Asian Games record with a throw of 30.01 m. [2] [3] [4]
Soorma hails from Faridabad, Haryana. He did his schooling at St. Paul's School, Delhi. [5] He completed his post-graduation from Delhi School of Economics. He works as an Assistant Manager in Bank of Baroda. In 2011 at the age of 16, Soorma met with an accident that injured his spinal cord. [6] His father, Sanjeev, quit his job to support his son to take up sports. [7] Athletes whose movement was affected to a high degree in the trunk, legs and hands are qualified for the F51 club throw event. They rely on their shoulders and arm to generate power and take the throw while seated. [8] Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him for his resilience. [9] He is supported by sports NGO Olympic Gold Quest.
Soorma won the Asian Para Games gold with a record on 23 October 2023. [6] Earlier in 2023, he also won gold in the Serbia Open. In 2022, he bagged silver and gold at the Tunisia Grand Prix. In 2019, he won silver at the Beijing Grand Prix. [6] In the inaugural Khelo India Para games, he improved his Asian record by throwing a distance of 33.54 for his gold medal in December 2023 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. [10] [11]
India first participated in the 1968 Summer Paralympics. The nation has appeared in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since 1984. The Paris 2024 Games marked India's 13th appearance at the Paralympics. The country has never participated in the Winter Paralympic Games.
Amit Kumar Saroha, also known as Amit Kumar Kumar or simply Amit Kumar, is a Paralympian, Asian Para Games medalist and an Arjuna Awardee, competing in the F51 category in Discus throw and Club throw. He is one of India's top Para athletes and the first quadriplegic to represent India at a Paralympic Games. He trains at the Sports Authority of India in Sonipat and is being supported by the GoSports Foundation
Deepa Malik is an Indian para athlete from Haryana. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games. She won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in shot put.

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), are the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India held in January or February for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students. Every year best 1,000 kids will be given an annual scholarship of ₹5 lakh (US$6,000) for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events.
Ekta Bhyan is a para athlete who represents India in the women's Club and Discus throw events. She represented the country at the 2018 Asian Para Games held at Jakarta, Indonesia and won gold medal in the club throw event. She qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, following her second consecutive appearance in the World Para Athletics Championships. She has also represented India at the World Para Athletics Championships 2023, Paris, and won the Bronze medal at Club Throw. She has also competed and won medals in several IPC Grand Prix held at Berlin in 2016, Dubai in 2017, Tunisia in 2018 and Dubai in 2023. Ekta also won a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China in the Club Throw event.
Amit Sheoran is a pistol shooting coach, who also competed at a national level, He had to leave shooting due to the death of his father. He has produced several national and international-level Indian pistol shooters. He has coached Saurabh Chaudhary.
Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is a national level multi-sport event held in India, where athletes from universities across the country compete in different sports disciplines. The inaugural edition held in Odisha started on 22 February and concluded on 1 March 2020. It is organised by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports along with Association of Indian Universities, Indian Olympic Association and National Sports Federation. It is the largest university level sports competition in India.
Nishad Kumar is an Indian paralympian. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the high jump T47 category. He won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics at Tokyo and retained his silver at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris.
Sumit Antil is an Indian Paralympian and javelin thrower. He won the gold at the men's javelin throw F64 event at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and the 2024 Paris Paralympics. He set a new Paralympic record both times with his throws of 68.55 m and 70.59 m respectively. He is a two-time gold medalist at the World Para Championships. In 2022, Antil not only won the gold medal at the Asian Para Games but also made the para-javelin WR of 73.29 m. He is a six-time world record holder.
Praveen Kumar is an Indian Paralympic athlete from Uttar Pradesh. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, his second Olympics.
Nithya Sivan is an Indian para-badminton player. She won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in the women's singles event. Sivan has also won two bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games in the mixed and women's doubles events.
Rachana Patel is a para athlete from Gujarat. She won a bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games. She claimed bronze in Badminton women's double in the SH6 category along with Nithya Sre Sivan on 25 October 2023 at Hangzhou, China.
Shialesh Kumar is a para jumper from Bihar. He represented India in the men's high jump at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. He won a gold medal in the men's T63 high jump event clearing 1.82 meters on 23 October 2023. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris.
Ashwin Kanchanbhai Makwana is an Indian para chess player from Gujarat. The visually challenged chess player was selected for the Indian team that took part in the 2022 Asian Para Games, Hangzhou, China. He won the Men's Team Rapid VI-B1 gold medal on 28 October 2023 along with Darpan Inani and Soundarya Pradhan. He also won a bronze medal in the individual event on the same day.
Sivarajan Solaimalai is a para badminton player from Tamil Nadu. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Para Olympics in the singles SH6 and men's doubles SH6 badminton events in Paris. He represented India at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China and won a bronze medal in the doubles SH6 event along with Krishna Nagar.
