Captain Pushpendra Kumar Garg (born 22 November 1963) is an Indian sportsperson in yachting. He was born in Sasni in Aligarh district (Now it situated at Hathras district) of Uttar Pradesh. He studied at Sainik School, Lucknow, and the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla before joining the Indian Navy. [1]

Career

He formed a team with Homi Motivala and won the bronze medal in the enterprise class at the 1990 and 1994 Asian Games held at Beijing and Hiroshima respectively. They were also the world champions in the same class in 1993. He won the Gold Medal at the 1993 Enterprise Class World Championship in Zimbabwe and Silver Medal in 1997 Enterprise Class World Championship in Goa, India. In 2021 he was appointed as the CEO of Sports Authority of India. [2]

Awards

P. K. Garg received the Arjuna award for best performance in Yachting for the year 1990 and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award jointly with Homi Motivala for overall best performance in sports for the year 1994–95 from the Government of India.

Anju Bobby George is a retired Indian athlete. Anju Bobby George made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics jumping 6.70 metres (22.0 ft). She went on to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Athletics Final in 2005, a performance she considers her best. Anju was upgraded to the gold status from silver in the 2005 World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo following the disqualification of Tatyana Kotova of Russia by the International Association of Athletics Federations, following the recent re-testing of the latter's sample collected at the 2005 World Championship in Helsinki. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1963, the Padma Shri Award in 1965, and the Dronacharya Award in 1996.He was the first Indian to be a World champion in any sport.

A Junior Commissioned Officer Subedar (JCO) in the Indian Army, Chopra is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from India to win at the World Under-20 Championships, where in 2016 he achieved a world U20 record throw of 86.48 m, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record.

Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj is an Arjuna awardee Indian professional Para-Badminton player currently ranked world No.2 in men's singles and silver medalist in SL-4 category in Tokyo Paralympics 2021. Suhas is also an IAS officer of the 2007 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre, he is presently serving as District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar. He has also served as the District Magistrate of Prayagraj. He became National Champion after winning gold medal in Men's Singles category at second National Para Badminton Championships held at Varanasi in March 2018. He is also an engineer who graduated from National Institute of Technology. He is the only IAS officer in India to win a Paralympic medal and an Arjuna Award.

Commander Mahesh Ramchandran is a retired Indian Naval Officer. He is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, with a Bachelor of Science degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Mahesh was awarded the Arjuna Award on 29 August 2002 for the year 2001. This was conferred to him by the then President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
