Tarundeep Rai (born 22 February 1984) [1] is an Indian archer from Sikkim. [2] [3] He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 by the Government of India for his contribution to sports. He is a three time Olympian.
Rai was born in Namchi, Sikkim, India. He is supported by a sports NGO, Olympic Gold Quest. [2]
Rai made his international debut in 2003 at the age of 19 years at the Asian Archery Championship 2003 held at Yangon, Myanmar. [4] He won India's maiden individual silver medal at the 16th Asian Games on 24 November 2010 in Guangzhou, China. [5] [6]
Earlier, he was also a member of the Indian team that won a bronze medal at the 15th Asian Games in Doha in 2006. [4]
He became an Olympian taking part in the 2004 Summer Olympics, where he was placed 32nd in the men's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 647. [4] He faced Alexandros Karageorgiou of Greece in the first elimination round and lost 147-143. His final rank was 43. He was also a member of the Indian men's archery team that was place 11th at the 2004 Olympics.
He was out of action for two years in 2007 and 2008 due to a career-threatening shoulder injury. [7] He won a silver medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games in the individual event. [8]
Rai was part of Indian men's recurve team at the 2012 London Olympics. [9] after India took third place in the qualification round at Ogden, US in 2012. [10]
He was a part of the Indian archery team that finished 4th at the 2003 World Championship in New York City. [4] His was also part of the Indian team that won silver medal at the 2005 World Championship in Madrid, Spain. He also became the first Indian to make it to the semifinal round of the World Archery Championship in 2005 where he narrowly lost to Won Jong Choi of South Korea by 106-112 for the bronze medal play-off. He won three gold medals at South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong. [11]
Rai along with Atanu Das and Praveen Jadhav won a quota place and took part in Tokyo Olympics. [12] Due to lockdown, he trained at ASI campus. [13] [14] He reduced 14 kg in six months. [15] [16] He was part of the Indian team that defeated Kazakhstan in round of 16 in the men's team event. Later, they lost to Republic of Korea in the quarterfinals. In the individual event, he defeated Oleksii Hunbin of Ukraine 6-4 in the 1st round but lost to Itay Shanny of Israel in Round 2 in a one arrow shoot-off.
Rai is selected to take part in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games at Paris in both individual and team events. He lost to Tom Hall of England in 1/32 eliminations in the individual match.
Limba Ram is an Indian archer who represented India in international competitions, including three Olympics. He equalled an archery world record in 1992 at the Asian Archery Championships in Beijing. He was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2012.
Jayanta Talukdar is an Indian archer from Assam. He has won individual gold Medal in the 2006 Archery World Cup.
Vishwas is an Indian archer who won the bronze medal in the team competition at the 2006 Asian Games.
Bombayla Devi Laishram is an Indian archer. A member of the national recurve team representing India at the international events since 2007, she has won a silver medal at the World Archery Championships, and four gold, five silver, and four bronze medals at various editions of the Archery World Cup. Laishram peaked at no. 14 in the world rankings in March 2009.

Deepika Kumari is an Indian professional archer. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women's individual recurve event. She also won a gold there in the women's team recurve event with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi. She won individual gold in two of the three stages of the World Cup—one in Guatemala and another in Paris. In the process she also reclaimed the number one ranking after nine years at the Paris World Cup. Deepika won individual gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1. She defeated Mexico by 5–1 in the final to win the gold in Paris.
Taylor Worth is an Australian archer competing in recurve events. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the men's team event, a gold medal at the United States Open and at the 2008 World Youth Archery Championships in the under-18 men's team recurve event. Worth represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Individual competition, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio won a bronze medal alongside Alec Potts and Ryan Tyack in the men's team archery. He represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Purnima Mahato is an Indian archer and archery coach from Jamshedpur, India. She has won the Indian national archery championships. She was a coach for the Indian national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics and was selected to coach the team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was awarded Dronacharya award from President of India for 2013 on 29 August 2013. She will be conferred with the Padma Shri 2024, India's fourth highest civilian award, for her work in the field of Sports.

Zahra Nemati is an Iranian Paralympic and Olympic archer. She originally competed in taekwondo before she was paralyzed in a car accident. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics she won two medals, an individual gold and team bronze. She has qualified to compete at both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Paralympics. She was the flag bearer at the 2016 Olympics and the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo where she shared the honour with thrower Nourmohammad Arekhi.
Atul Verma is an Indian archer. He won the bronze medal in Men's Recurve Archery at 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China beating Mete Gazoz of Turkey 6-4.
Atanu Das is an Indian archer. He represents India in the recurve men's individual and team events. His current world ranking is 9 as of 22 July 2021. He is the spouse of former World No. 1 Indian archer Deepika Kumari. The Indian Men's recurve team consisting of Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tushar Shelke won the silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games. They lost the final to Republic of Korea.

At the 2019 World Archery Championships, he was a member of the first Indian team to qualify for the final since 2005; the team received the silver medal. He made his Olympic debut in Tokyo at the 2020 Summer Olympics and represented India again at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Oleksii Ihorovych Hunbin is a Ukrainian archer. He represented Ukraine at the 2020 Summer Olympics in men's individual and mixed team competition. He won silver medal at the 2021 European Championships in team event.
Itay Shanny is an Israeli archer.
Harvinder Singh is an Indian paralympic archer from Haryana. He won a bronze medal in the men's singles recurve archery at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. It was the first ever Paralympic medal in archery for India.
BommadevaraDhiraj is an Indian archer from Andhra Pradesh. He represents India in the recurve men's individual and team events. In the recurve men, he is ranked 15th in the World Rankings. He booked a berth for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In the buildup to the Olympics in June 2024, he won a bronze medal at the World Cup 2024 in Antalya.
