Indian Sports Honours are annual sports awards given by the RPSG Group and the Sevva Foundation to sports personalities from India that have achieved excellence. [1] The awards were founded in 2017. [2]

Contents

Background

The inaugural award ceremony was held on 11 November 2017 in Mumbai. [3] The jury was chaired by former All-England champion and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, tennis player and multiple Grand Slam winner Mahesh Bhupathi, former sprinter and President of the Indian Olympic Association P. T. Usha, former world number one shooter Anjali Bhagwat and India men's field hockey team's former captain Arjun Halappa. [4]

In the sport of cricket, sledging is the practice of deliberately insulting or verbally intimidating an opposing player. The purpose is to try to weaken the opponent's concentration, thereby causing them to underperform or be more prone to error. The Andheri Sports Complex also known as Shahaji Raje Krida Sankul is a multi-purpose facility located on Veera Desai Road in Andheri West, Mumbai, India. It was built in 1988 at Rs. 30 crore for schools that lacked the necessary infrastructure to hold sports meets. The complex is used for both national level sports tournaments like squash, boxing, tennis and karate. The sports complex has an olympic size swimming pool and a diving pool with 4 diving levels. In 2016, it was redeveloped to include a modern football stadium in accordance with FIFA guidelines and known as Mumbai Football Arena.

The 2011 Cricket World Cup Final was the final match of the 2011 Men's Cricket World Cup, the 10th edition of ICC's championship of One Day International (ODI) cricket. The match was played between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday 2 April 2011. It was the first time that two Asian teams had faced each other in an ODI World Cup final. India won the match by six wickets—its second World Cup win after the 1983 tournament—and became the third team to have won the title more than once, after Australia and the West Indies. India became the first country to win the Cricket World Cup in their own country.

Anandiben Mafatbhai Patel is an Indian politician serving as the 20th and current governor of Uttar Pradesh since 2019. She also served as the 17th governor of Madhya Pradesh from 2020 to 2021 and as Governor of Chhattisgarh from 2018 to 2019. She has served as the first and to date, the only female Chief Minister of Gujarat. She is also the second female Governor of Uttar Pradesh after Sarojini Naidu. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1987. She was the Cabinet Minister for Education from 2002 to 2007.

Sayed Iqbal Abdulla is an Indian cricketer who bowls orthodox spin and is a left-handed lower order batsmen. He plays for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, and used to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Shreyas Santosh Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team as a right-handed batter. Currently, he is bought by Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.He has played in all formats for the Indian cricket team. Iyer scored a century in his debut test match and a half-century in the second innings against New Zealand in November 2021, thus becoming the first Indian player to achieve the milestone. Iyer plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and captained the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League from 2022 to 2024. He played for the India Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was named in the India Squad for 2023 Cricket World Cup, and scored a century against New Zealand in the semi-finals. He was a part of the Indian squad that won the 2023 Asia Cup. He won his first IPL title as captain in the 2024 Indian Premier League, becoming the 5th Indian player to lead a team to the IPL title victory.

The ESPNcricinfo Awards are an annual set of sports awards for international cricket and T20 leagues around the world, which recognise and honour the best individual batting and bowling performances in cricket over the previous calendar year. The awards were introduced by ESPNcricinfo in 2007.

The New Zealand cricket team toured India in October and November 2024 to play three Test matches against India cricket team. The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. In June 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the fixtures for the tour, as a part of the 2024–25 home international season.
