Subedar Jeremy Lalrinnunga (born 26 October 2002) is an Indian weightlifter. [1] He made history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games, clinching the top spot in the boys' 62 kg event at the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympics. [2] [3] He continued his success on the senior stage by winning the gold medal in the men's 67 kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he lifted a combined total of 300 kg, setting a new Games record. [4]
Lalrinnunga was born on October 26, 2002, in Aizawl, Mizoram. In the early 1990s, his father Lalneihtluanga Ralte was well-known on the Mizoram boxing circuit. Jeremy comes from a lowly background because his family circumstances prevented him for a very long time from pursuing his aspirations. His father began working as a labourer on contract with the neighbourhood Public Works Department in an effort to provide for his family (PWD). [5]
