Jamuna Boro (born 7 May 1997) is an Indian former boxer. She won bronze medal at the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. [2] She won gold medal at the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament in Guwahati. [3] She won gold medal at the 23rd President's Cup 2019 Boxing International Open Tournament in Labuan Bajo. [4] She won bronze medal at the 5th Elite Women's National Boxing Championship in Hisar (city). [5] Boro resigned from Assam Rifles and was appointed as excise inspector by Assam Government. Personal life

Jamuna Boro was born on 7 May 1997 in Sonitpur, Assam. [7] [8] She hails from Belsiri village. Her father, Parshu Boro, died when she was ten years old and her mother, Nirmali Boro had to work as a vegetable vendor. [7] [9] In September 2021, Boro was appoineted as an excise inspector under the state sports policy of Assam. [10]

Career

She started her career as a Wushu player, coached by John Smith Narzary. In 2009, during the State Wushu Championship held at Udalguri, she was spotted by the observers of Sports Authority of India (SAI). Later she started boxing and was selected for the SAI Regional Sub Centre, based in Guwahati. [11] She is included in the Elite Women's team. [7] She won a silver medal in the 56th Belgrade Women's Boxing Tournament. [12] [13] She had participated at the 2nd ‘Bengal Classic’ All India Invitational Elite (Men/ Women) Boxing Championship, held in Jatin Das Park, Kolkata from 21 to 25 January 2019 and 67th All India Police Wrestling Cluster held in Jaipur from 27 Feb to 3 March 2019. She won gold medal at the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati from 20 to 24 May 2019 where she defeated her rivals Meena Kumari Maisnam in semi-finals and Y Sandhyarani Devi in the finals. She won gold medal at the 23rd President's Cup 2019 Boxing International Open Tournament held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara where she beat her opponents Kase Serlin Alin Liliwati of Indonesia in semi-finals and Giulia Lamagna of Italy in the finals both by 5–0. [4] She is registered with Boxing Federation of India.

In November 2019, Boro signed up with sports management firm Infinity Optimal Solutions (IOS) which will handle her endorsements and commercial interests. [14]

2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships

Boro, in 54 kg category, was amongst ten boxers who had represented India in The 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships held in Ulan-Ude, Russia from 3 to 13 October 2019. [15] She lost to Chinese Taipei's Huang Hsiao-wen in the semifinal and had to settle with a bronze medal. [16]

Laishram Sarita Devi is an Indian boxer from Manipur. She is a national champion and a former world champion in the lightweight class. In 2009, she was awarded Arjuna award by the government of India for her achievements.

Shiva Thapa is an Indian boxer. Thapa participated in the 2012 London Olympics, and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. Thapa is ranked 3rd in the bantamweight category in the AIBA Men's World Ranking. He is the third Indian to clinch gold at the Asian Games. Thapa is the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships. Thapa has been elected as a member of the International Boxing Association (amateur) Athletes Committee.

Gaurav Bidhuri is an Indian boxer from Mandanpur Khadar village, New Delhi who competes in the 56 kg bantamweight division. He is ranked 11th in the World by AIBA in the year 2018. He won a bronze medal at the 2017 World Boxing Championships held at Hamburg, Germany. He is the only 4th Indian boxer who got a medal at World Boxing Championship. He is currently employed with Indian Railways.

Amit Panghal has received top seeding in the 52 kg category. Lovlina Borgohain is an Indian boxer. She won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in the women's welterweight event, becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. She won gold medal at 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships and bronze medals at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. Simranjit Kaur Baatth is an Indian amateur boxer from Punjab, India. She has represented India internationally since 2011. Kaur won a bronze medal for India at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. She was a part of the Indian women's boxing contingent and won a gold medal at the Ahmet Comert International Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey in the 64 kg category. Baatth is the first female boxer from Punjab to participate in the Olympics. Simranjit won silver at the 2019 Asian Championships and bronze at the 2018 World Championships. She won gold medal at the Cologne Boxing World Cup in Germany.
