The 25th Combined Arms Army is a field army of the Russian Ground Forces that began forming in from May 2023. [2]

History

In order to facilitate the redeployment of troops on the front lines in Luhansk Oblast and defense against the Ukrainian counteroffensive in southern Ukraine, the establishment of 25th Combined Arms Army was started from May 2023. The unit is made up of officers and conscripts from Buryatia and Irkutsk. [3] [4]

Deployment

On 31 August 2023, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov said that the Russian military has sent personnel from the newly formed and likely under-strength 25th Combined Arms Army to Kupyansk to replace units from the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District. [5] [6] It was reported at the end of September that the 25th CAA was fully staffed with around 17,000 personnel and had been placed at the war front near Kreminna in the Luhansk region of Ukraine. [7]

The 19th Voronezh-Shumlinskaya Red Banner Order of Suvorov and Red Banner of Labor Motor Rifle Division, is a division of the Russian Ground Forces. It appears to have been formed originally in July 1922 at Tambov in the Moscow Military District as a territorial formation. In 1923 it was awarded the 'Tambov' placename and renamed the 19th Voronezh Rifle Division. The division was downsized to a brigade in 2009 and reestablished as a division in 2020.

The 39th Separate Guards Red Banner Motor Rifle Brigade is a mechanized infantry brigade in the Russian Ground Forces. Originally formed as the Blagoveshchensk Fortified Region of the Soviet Union's Red Army in 1932, it became the basis for the 2nd formation of the 342nd Rifle Division and took part in the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. During the Cold War, it was reformed as the 56th Motor Rifle Division and later re-designated as the 33rd Separate Motor Rifle Division. In 2009, it was downsized and reorganized into the 39th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade as part of the 2008 Russian military reform.

The 3rd Army Corps is a military formation of the Russian Ground Forces formed in June 2022 to participate in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The 3rd Corps was raised in response to the depletion of trained manpower during the early months of the invasion. It was formed exclusively by volunteers, as at that point Russia had not yet begun the process of partial mobilization and preferred to avoid or delay doing so. Recruitment was on a regional basis, with federal subject administrations and local authorities conducting recruitment campaigns. Its current effective strength estimated at 15,500–60,000 personnel as of January 2023, and originally belonged to the Western Military District, before moving under the command of the Central Military District in 2023.

The 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive was a major counteroffensive operation during the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began on 6 September 2022. Following the launch of the Kherson counteroffensive in southern Ukraine in late August, Ukrainian forces began a second counteroffensive in early September in Kharkiv Oblast, in Eastern Ukraine.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Luhansk Oblast campaign</span> Military campaign within the Russian invasion of Ukraine since 2022

Since 19 September 2022, a military campaign has taken place along a 60-km frontline in western parts of Luhansk Oblast and far-eastern parts of Kharkiv Oblast amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Also known as the Svatove–Kreminna line or the Kupiansk–Svatove–Kreminna–Bilohorivka line after the major settlements along the front, the campaign began a day after the Ukrainian Army recaptured the nearby city of Lyman during the Kharkiv counteroffensive after of which the front line froze over the next few months.

Nesterianka is a village in Polohy Raion (district) in Zaporizhzhia Oblast of southern Ukraine, at about 56.69 kilometres (35.23 mi) southeast (SE) from the centre of Zaporizhzhia city.
