The ABCD Basketball Camp was a youth basketball camp founded by Sonny Vaccaro that was held from 1984 to 2006. The camp gathered the highest ranked high school players of the United States, and was considered one of the top events of high school basketball. The ABCD Camp was founded in 1984 by Sonny Vaccaro and was sponsored by Nike. [6] The camp took place every year in the month of July usually lasting 4–5 days, and was held in different locations in the initial years, among which the Bren Events Center at UC Irvine in 1992 [7] and at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1993 [8] before moving to the Rothman Center, at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey, where the camp was held from 1994 until its final edition in 2006. [9]
The camp was sponsored by the corporations Vaccaro was signed to: from 1984 to 1992 Nike was the sponsor; in 1993 the camp was under the Converse brand, while from 1994 to 2003 Adidas was the sponsor. [10] After 2003, Vaccaro had a deal with Reebok [6] that lasted until the last edition of the camp in 2006. [11] Several college coaches attended ABCD Camp during their recruitment process of high school players: among them Bob Bender, Jim Boeheim, P. J. Carlesimo, Joe Harrington and Mike Krzyzewski. [9] [12] [13] [14] NBA scouts also participated and in some cases, camp participants were drafted out of high school, for instance Kevin Garnett, [14] Kobe Bryant, Jermaine O'Neal, Tracy McGrady, Kwame Brown, Eddy Curry, Sebastian Telfair and Gerald Green. The 1994–95 NBA season was the Magic's 6th season in the National Basketball Association. After building through the draft in previous years, the Magic made themselves even stronger by signing free agents Horace Grant, who won three championships with the Chicago Bulls, and Brian Shaw during the off-season. The Magic got off to a fast start winning 22 of their first 27 games, then later holding a 37–10 record at the All-Star break. Despite losing seven of their final eleven games in April, the Magic easily won the Atlantic Division with a 57–25 record. They also finished with a 39–2 home record, tied for second best in NBA history.

The team narrowly missed the playoffs the previous season, but as a result, received unexpected good fortune. Despite having the worst odds, the Magic won the NBA draft lottery for the second consecutive season. The Magic drafted Chris Webber from the University of Michigan with the first overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft. They would eventually swap Webber to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the rights to University of Memphis guard Penny Hardaway and three future first-round picks.

Johnathan Hildred Wall Jr. is an American professional basketball player who most recently played for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A Raleigh, North Carolina native, Wall was chosen with the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards after playing one year of college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. Wall, who plays the point guard position, was a five-time NBA All-Star from 2014 to 2018 and was named to the All-NBA Team in 2017. He then signed to play college basketball at Kentucky, where he stayed 4 years, advancing to the NCAA tournament Sweet Sixteen in 2001 and 2002 and to the Elite Eight in 2003. In 2004, his senior year at Kentucky, he was an all-conference selection. After going undrafted in the 2004 NBA draft Hawkins started his professional career in Italy with LegaDue team JuveCaserta. He has played in Italy, France, Croatia, Turkey, Japan, Poland, Cyprus and Georgia in his 8-year professional career.
Amaury Apolinar Filion Fernández is a Dominican former professional basketball player. A left-handed 2.06 m forward-center, Filion debuted in 1997 with Mauricio Báez, a club of Santo Domingo. He then moved to the United States, where he played at Artesia High School in Lakewood, California before going back to the Dominican Republic. Throughout his 20-year professional career, Filion has played in the Dominican Republic, France, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela; in 2007 he was named the LIDOBA Finals MVP. A long-time member of the Dominican national team, he won the silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and the gold medal at the 2004 Centrobasket.
