A Wicked Tale is a 2005 Singaporean experimental short film written and directed by Tzang Merwyn Tong. The film premiered to at the 34th Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Contents

This low-budget film is a dark reimagining of the Little Red Riding Hood fable. A Wicked Tale was released in its uncut version on DVD in December 2005 in Singapore along with INRI studio's debut film, e'TZAINTES.

It won a Gold Remi Award at the 2005 WorldFest in Houston, US. [1]

Storyline

Beth, a curious little girl with a fascination for the forbidden meets a mysterious stranger in the woods. She suddenly becomes aware of her own sexuality. Like all teenagers, she wants to know how far she can go before she makes her escape. Gingerly, she flirts along, allowing herself to be manipulated by her seducer, thinking that she can shy away from his bestial intentions unscathed...

A Wicked Tale made its world premiere at the 34th International Film Festival Rotterdam [2] and was selected to be the closing night film of the 2005 Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival. [3] Its Asian premiere was at the 18th Singapore International Film Festival. [4]

It has since become a cult film. [5]

The studio's mission is to create a platform for writers, storytellers, musicians and film-makers to come together to present alternative art forms to mainstream audiences. Gurvinder Singh Indian film director

Gurvinder Singh is an Indian film director. He is best known for his Punjabi language films Anhe Ghore Da Daan, and Chauthi Koot which premiered at Venice and Cannes Film Festival respectively. Gurvinder is an alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune from where he studied film-making and graduated in 2001. He travelled extensively through Punjab between 2002 and 2006, living and traveling with folk itinerants, documenting folk ballads and oral narratives. It led to his first documentary 'Pala'. He continued to make short experimental works and documenting arts/artists for the next few years. In 2005 he was invited by avant-garde Indian filmmaker Mani Kaul to be his teaching assistant for a master-class at FTII, which led to a close association with the filmmaker who became his mentor. He translated and published a book of conversations of Udayan Vajpeyi with Mani Kaul, titled 'Uncloven Space'. His latest film is 'Infiltrator' starring Veer Rajwant Singh which is a 15-minute short story in an international omnibus called 'In the same garden'
