Abia is a town in southern part of Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. [1] [2] Abia is in the Umu-Neke clan, other towns that make up the clan are Udi, Amokwe, Agbudu, Obinagu, Umuabi, Umuaga, and Nachi. [2]
The institution of marriage in Abia is generally the same as in other Igbo communities in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Marriage is contracted with the consent and participation of extended family members known as Umunna. The traditional marriage rites involve several stages with the first being Iku-aka (knocking on the door) to the final stage known as Igba nkwu (Traditional marriage). The couple becomes traditionally married after the last ceremony. [3] [4]

As in most parts of Eastern Nigeria, Abia has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: rainy and dry seasons characterized by temperature variations throughout the year. [7]
There are two governing structures in Abia community. The first is represented by the traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, the Igwe of the community and his ruling cabinet made up of representatives of all the village administrative units and advisers. [8] The second structure is the town union headed by the elected chairman - called The President General and the members of his executive. [9] [10]
Abia people are predominantly Christians. There are multiple churches in Abia that include St. Luke’s Anglican Church, St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Grace of God Mission Incorporated, Assemblies of God, Methodist Church, Winners Chapel, Holy Ghost Church, Deeper Life Bible Church, Church of Advent, and All Saints Church. In the pre-colonial days, Abia people were mostly farmers today most Abians are public servants or businesspersons. The town has supply of potable water, electricity and roads connecting to other neighboring areas. [9] [10]
There are two primary schools in Abia and one secondary school that is jointly owned by Abia and Udi. [1]

Inyi is a town in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria, approximately 60 kilometers from Enugu City and 35 kilometers from Nnewi. The name "Inyi" refers to a metaphor, which is an essential component in the creation of proverbs. It is the Igbo name for the red water tree. Due to historical events connecting the tree and the town's founder, he was given the name, which subsequently became the town's name. Umunya is an Olu Town and one of the five communities that make up Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State Nigeria. It is bordered by six neighbors: Ifite-Dunu, Awkuzu, Nteje, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Ogbunike, and Umudioka. In the south lies Umudioka and Ifite-Dunu, both in Dunukofia LGA. In the north, Nteje and Nkwelle-Ezunaka. In the east, Awkuzu and in the west, Ogbunike. The boundaries are naturally demarcated by streams except at the border with Nkwelle-Ezunaka where an expanse of Umunya heath namely, Oli-Omoto, Ogwugwu-Obo, Ugwueze, etc. crossed the Kpokili River. The Waawa clan of Northern Igboland, also referred to as Ndi Waawa, Wawa People, are a unique sub-group of the Igbo people in Enugu and Ebonyi State, Nigeria, consisting of several communities, who all speak a unique dialect of Igbo called Waawa. The most notable among these are the Agbaja and Ngwo which consist of peoples between the wooded lands of Awka to the rocky valleys of Enugu. The Agbaja are made up of communities in present-day Ngwo clan, Udi, Ezeagu, Umulokpa, Igbo-Etiti, Oji River, greater Awgu, Aninri and Enugu East Local Government Areas. Other notable parts of the Waawa clan include Nkanu, Nsukka, Abia, Nike, Agbani, Owo, and other communities in Enugu State. The Waawa are most notably associated with Chief Onyeama's people from Eke, who was the paramount ruler of Agbaja in the early 20th century.
Akiyi is an autonomous community in Umulokpa, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (LGA), Enugu State, Nigeria. It has Seven (7) villages namely: Enugwu, Enugwu-Uwani, Imama, Nkwelle, Ukpali, Uwani and Uwenu.
Neke is a town located in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State in South Eastern Nigeria. Bordered by towns such as Ugwuogo Nike in the South, Ikem in the East, Mbu in the West, Eha Amufu and UmuAlor in Southeast, Obolo-Eke in the North, Ogbodu-Abaa in Northwest, and Opi in Southwest. Neke is a town of about 55,000 population with a strong backbone large land mass. In the pre-colonial era, the people of Neke were known as fearsome warriors who had an economic stronghold on neighboring areas. The Neke town has 5 main clans and districts namely; Ishienu, Akpani, Obeguaba, Umugwu and Umuegwu located in the town's core. These districts represent villages made up of clans and kindred prominent to the town's social structure. In the present day, many new settlements have sprung up in various parts of the large expanse of land that belongs to the town. These new settlements include Agudene Neke, Onueme Neke, Uzo-Ohu Neke, Ugwuakparata Neke, Mburuamanyi Neke, etc. Recently the Enugu State government created five new autonomous communities within Neke town. The new communities are Akpani Autonomous community, Uno-Neke Autonomous community, Emeora Autonomous community, Ndiagu Autonomous community, and Mburu Amanyi Autonomous community. Each of these autonomous communities has Traditional Rulers who are referred to as Igwes.
Emeka Mamah (Ideh) is a Nigerian entrepreneur and politician who served as commissioner for environment and mineral resources, Enugu State from 2018 to 2019, and commissioner for chieftaincy and rural development from 2020 to 2023. He also served as special adviser on transport to the governor of Enugu State in 2010. Mamah is the group managing director, Ifesinachi transport limited and a prince of the Ugbaike Kingdom of Igbo-Eze North LGA of Enugu State.
