Enugu South is a Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Uwani, Nnobi Street Enugu, [1] and covers the communities of Akwuke, Amechi, Ugwuaji, Obeagu, Awkunanaw and Amechi-Uwani. Enugu South is bounded to the north by Enugu North and to the east by Nkanu East local government areas. It falls within the Eastern senatorial districts of Enugu.
It has an area of 67 km2 [2] and a population of 198,723 at the 2006 census, and is put to be 267,300 according to 2016 population projection. [3] Majority of the population are from Igbo ethnic group, thus, Igbo and English are the major languages in Enugu South. [2] The LGA is also rich in agriculture. The postal code of the area is 400. [4]
Enugu South covers a land area of 67 square kilometers and has an average yearly temperature of 27 °C. The area experience average humidity of 69%, while the LGA has two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with a brief harmattan period during the dry season. [2]
Landmarks in the area include, among others, the Roban stores shopping Mall in Agbani road, the Holy Rosary College and the Ngwo relaxation park.
Enugu South local government (just like Enugu City) has a vast deposits of coal and thus is part of the area being referred to as the "Coal City". The area is also famous in the cultivation of food and cash crops such as maize, yam and cassava. The local government is also a home to many open markets such as is the Kenyatta market and the Mayor market.
Enugu South is a local government area in Enugu state which serves as the lower tier of government in the state. It is chaired by Hon. Monday E. Eneh as the executive chairman, Hon. Sandra Akuabata Onyia as the Deputy Chairman Enugu South L.G.A and Rt. Hon. Onyemaechi Ani as the Leader Enugu South legislative council. [5]

A majority of the population of Enugu South LGA are Christians. The rest are Muslims, atheist and adherents of odinala.
Enugu is the capital city of Enugu State in Nigeria. The city had a population of 4,690,100 spread across the three LGAs of Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South, according to the 2022 Nigerian census.
Owerri is the capital city of Imo State in Nigeria, set in the heart of Igboland. It is also the state's largest city, followed by Orlu, Okigwe and Ohaji/Egbema. Enugu State verbally pronounced as "Enụgwụ" by the igbo indigenes is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered to the north by the states of Benue and Kogi, Ebonyi State to the east and southeast, Abia State to the south, and Anambra State to the west. Chimaroke Nnamani is a Nigerian medical doctor and politician from Enugu State. He was elected Governor of Enugu State in the 1999 Enugu State gubernatorial election from 1999 to 2007. He subsequently served as a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator for Enugu East Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 and was re-elected in 2019.

Umulokpa is a town in Enugu State, Nigeria. It serves as the headquarters of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (L.G.A) in Enugu State, and has a population of over 150,000.
Akiyi is an autonomous community in Umulokpa, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (LGA), Enugu State, Nigeria. It has Seven (7) villages namely: Enugwu, Enugwu-Uwani, Imama, Nkwelle, Ukpali, Uwani and Uwenu.
Owo is a town in Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu state, Nigeria. Owo consists of six main villages: Ashishi, Ohuani, Ishiegu, Ogere, Emene and Ndiagu. Other settlements which were originally part of the main villages are Ejaogbo, Mbulu, Ekeagu, Obegu ishiagu, Obegu Emene, Obegu Ogere, and Obegu Ohuani. These make up Mbulu Owo autonomous community created in the year, 2006. The town is an agrarian community: About 80% of the population are farmers. The population of Owo in 2014 was 9,879. The estimated population of Owo in 2022 is over 14,000 people.
Patrick Asadu is a Nigerian politician and a medical practitioner who hails from Ovoko in Igbo-eze South local government area of Enugu State who is serving as a representative of Nsukka/Igbo-eze south constituency at the Federal House of Representatives. He was appointed an Honourable Commissioner of Enugu State after joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
