The government of Abu Dhabi is planning a tram system, as part of a broader long-term transport strategy. [1] In 2009, it was suggested that the tram system would enter service in 2014; however, nothing has materialised. [2] The network is expected to cost around $5Bn. [3]

Network

A 340 km tram network is planned. [4] The network will have three lines, [5] focussing on the CBD, with connections to Reem, Suwa, Khalifa City A and B, Al Raha beach, and Saadiyat Islands. [6]

Reem Island is a natural island 600 metres off the coast of Abu Dhabi island. Sorouh Real Estate, now merged with Aldar Properties PJSC, Reem Investments, and Tamouh are independently developing parts of the island with projects like Shams Abu Dhabi. Reem Developers define the overall dimensions of the project as 6.5 million square metres and investment costs as exceeding $30 billion. The project has gained international interest as one of the first free zones in Abu Dhabi, where foreign nationals can buy property on a 50 year leasehold basis.

Al Raha is a mixed commercial, residential, and leisure area in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, located primarily in Khalifa City A. The area is situated between Umm Al-Nar and Abu Dhabi International Airport. Al Raha includes two primary sections, Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens, featuring eleven sub-precincts: Al Zeina, Khor Al Raha, Al Bandar, Al Seef, Al Dana, Al Rumaila, Al Zahiya, Al Lissayli, Al Shaleela, Al Razeen, and Al Thurayya. Spread over an area of 5.2 million square metres, Al Raha Beach can accommodate 120,000 residents.

The Dubai Metro is a rapid transit rail network in United Arab Emirates. The Red Line and Green Line are operational, with one more line being constructed. Thanks to decades of conservation work and ecological investment, it is now home to thousands of large free-roaming animals and several million trees and plants. A bird sanctuary as well as a wildlife reserve, Sir Bani Yas showcases nature through activities such as adventure safaris, kayaking, mountain biking, archery, hiking and snorkeling.

The project, under development, consists of a large, low-lying island, 500 metres (1,600 ft) off the coast of Abu Dhabi island, UAE. Saadiyat Island is expected to become Abu Dhabi's cultural centre, mostly for the Island’s Cultural District that is expected to include eight museums.

It is approximately 24,000 square metres (260,000 sq ft) in size, with 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) of galleries, making it the largest art museum in the Arabian peninsula. The final cost of the construction is expected to be about €600 million. In addition, US$525 million was paid by Abu Dhabi to be associated with the Louvre name, and an additional US$747 million will be paid in exchange for art loans, special exhibitions and management advice.

Masdar City is a planned city project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Its core is being built by Masdar, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, with the majority of seed capital provided by the Government of Abu Dhabi. According to the University, its founders "envisioned an institution that would be among the best in the UAE and throughout the world. The largest private university in the United Arab Emirates, it offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees based upon the American model of higher education. Its founder and current Chairman is Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri.

Rail transport in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates has a very limited rail network. Plans for such a public transportation system only rose to prominence in the late 2000s, and various entities has since developed or are developing the following railways:

Zayed City, formerly "Abu Dhabi Capital District", is a construction project which will be built 7 kilometres inland south of Abu Dhabi island in the United Arab Emirates, between Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Abu Dhabi International Airport. The new district will be the seat of the UAE's federal government, and one of the key centrepieces of Plan 2030. The district will also be the main location for Abu Dhabi's own central government bodies, with the total value of projects estimated at $40bn.

Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro line

The Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro line, is a metro line in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Claimed to have the highest capacity of any metro in the world, it only operates for 7 days a year, and is used as an exclusive shuttle train for pilgrims between holy sites in Mecca, Mount Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina to reduce congestion caused by thousands of buses and cars during the Hajj.

Etihad Rail, formerly known as Union Railway, was established in June 2009 under Federal Law No. 2 to manage the development, construction and operation of the United Arab Emirates’ national freight and passenger railway network.

Sky News Arabia is an Arabic 24-hour rolling news channel broadcast mainly in the Middle East and North Africa. It is a joint venture between UK-based Sky and Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation (ADMIC), owned by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Emirate ruling family. The channel uses Sky News brand and was launched on 6 May 2012.


Abu Dhabi Metro is a planned metro line that will be part of a larger transit network for the city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
