Acromioplasty is an arthroscopic surgical procedure involving the acromion, a bony process of the shoulder blade.

Generally, it implies removal of a small piece of the surface of the acromion that is in contact with a tendon of the rotator cuff causing, by friction, damage to the tendon.

The procedure has been used to treat rotator cuff tears and impingement syndrome, [1] [2] although its benefits have been debated. [3] [4]

Adhesive capsulitis (AC), also known as frozen shoulder, is a condition associated with shoulder pain and stiffness. Calcific tendinitis is a common condition where deposits of calcium phosphate form in a tendon, sometimes causing pain at the affected site. Deposits can occur in several places in the body, but are by far most common in the rotator cuff of the shoulder. Around 80% of those with deposits experience symptoms, typically chronic pain during certain shoulder movements, or sharp acute pain that worsens at night. Calcific tendinitis is typically diagnosed by physical exam and X-ray imaging. The disease often resolves completely on its own, but is typically treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve pain, rest and physical therapy to promote healing, and in some cases various procedures to breakdown and/or remove the calcium deposits.

Shoulder surgery is a means of treating injured shoulders. Many surgeries have been developed to repair the muscles, connective tissue, or damaged joints that can arise from traumatic or overuse injuries to the shoulder.

He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology with distinction from the University of Kansas in 1996 and graduated with honors with an M.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 2000. From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Reuss was an Orthopaedic Surgery Resident Physician in the Orlando Regional Healthcare System. In 2004-2005 he was awarded the "Resident of the Year" for Orlando Regional Healthcare chosen from all the hospital system's Resident Doctors. He completed an Orthopaedic Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati/Wellington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2006. In 2010, Dr. Reuss was awarded the Sports Medicine Person of the Year from the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida.
