Daniel Paul Johns is an Australian musician,singer,and songwriter best known as the former frontman,guitarist,and main songwriter of the rock band Silverchair. Johns is also one half of The Dissociatives with Paul Mac and one half of Dreams with Luke Steele. He released his first solo album,Talk,in 2015. Johns' second solo album,FutureNever,was released on 22 April 2022. In 2007,Johns was ranked at number 18 on Rolling Stone's list of The 25 Most Underrated Guitarists. Johns has won 21 ARIA Awards from 49 nominations as a member of Silverchair,and has earned four other nominations as a solo artist.
Silverchair was an Australian rock band,which formed in 1992 as Innocent Criminals in Newcastle,New South Wales,with Daniel Johns on vocals and guitars,Ben Gillies on drums,and Chris Joannou on bass guitar. The group got their big break in mid-1994 when they won a national demo competition conducted by SBS TV show Nomad and ABC radio station Triple J. Paul Francis McDermott,who performs as Paul Mac,is an Australian electropop musician,singer-songwriter,producer and music re-mixer. He was classically trained at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Mac has formed various bands including Smash Mac Mac (1986–88),The Lab (1989–1998),Itch-E and Scratch-E (1991–present),Boo Boo Mace &Nutcase (1996–98),and The Dissociatives (2003–2005). Mac has released two solo albums,3000 Feet High and Panic Room –both appeared in the top 40 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Powderfinger were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane in 1989. From 1992 until their break-up in 2010,the line-up consisted of vocalist Bernard Fanning,guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug,bass guitarist John Collins and drummer Jon Coghill. Neon Ballroom is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair,released in 1999 by record labels Murmur and Epic. The songs "Anthem for the Year 2000","Ana's Song " and "Miss You Love" were released as singles and a short film was released for the song "Emotion Sickness". Neon Ballroom debuted at No. 1 on the Australian albums chart and peaked at No. 50 on the US Billboard 200 chart. It was also their most successful album on the UK Albums Chart,where it peaked at No. 29. The album was nominated for 10 ARIA Awards and was certified Triple Platinum by the ARIA for selling over 210,000 copies in Australia. Diorama is the fourth studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair,released on 31 March 2002 by Atlantic/Eleven. It won the 2002 ARIA Music Award for Best Group and Best Rock Album. The album was co-produced by Daniel Johns and David Bottrill. While Bottrill had worked on albums for a variety of other bands,Diorama marked the first production credit for lead singer Johns.

Live from Faraway Stables is a 2003 live album and concert film by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair. It was recorded at their concert held on 19 April 2003,at Newcastle Civic Theatre in the band's home-town of Newcastle,New South Wales,Australia, and was the second show to be held there during the band's Across the Night world tour of March to June 2003. It is Silverchair's first live release.
Young Modern is the fifth and final studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair,released on 31 March 2007 and co-produced by Daniel Johns and Nick Launay. The title comes from a nickname given to Daniel Johns by composer Van Dyke Parks. The tracks "Straight Lines","Reflections of a Sound","If You Keep Losing Sleep" and "Mind Reader" were released as singles. Young Modern entered the Australian albums chart at No. 1 on 15 April 2007,their fifth consecutive album to do this,making Silverchair the first band to accomplish this feat in Australia. The album was certified Triple Platinum by the ARIA,peaked at No. 70 on the US Billboard 200 chart and opened at No. 8 on the New Zealand albums chart. Young Modern won six ARIA Awards in 2007,including Best Group,Best Rock Album,Single of the Year and Album of the Year. At the J Awards of 2007,the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year.
The Best Of:Volume 1 is the first compilation album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair,which was issued on 13 November 2000. It includes every single they had released up until that point,with the exception of "Shade". The album peaked at No. 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
"Across the Night" was the fourth and final single released by rock band Silverchair from their fourth album,Diorama. It is the first track on Diorama,and is a major departure from their previous,grungy sound which was featured on Frogstomp,which was released in 1995. It was released in Australia with a limited edition bonus DVD,titled Powderfinger's First XI,featuring eleven music videos spanning the band's career,from the first single,"Tail" to "Bless My Soul",the band's latest single before the release of the album. A collector's edition,including a CD and DVD,was released on 18 April 2008.
"Lost and Running" is a song by Australian rock group Powderfinger. It was released as the first single from the group's sixth studio album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence. It is the band's twenty-second single and peaked at No. 5 on the Australian chart,the group's second highest-charting single after "My Happiness". It made its radio debut on 13 April on Triple J and was released to wide radio play and the band's MySpace on 16 April 2007. The single was officially released on 12 May 2007.
The Across the Great Divide tour was a concert tour by Australian alternative rock bands Powderfinger and Silverchair in 2007. The tour featured concerts in 26 towns across Australia and multiple shows in New Zealand. According to Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning,the aim of the tour was to "show [that] both bands are behind the idea of reconciliation". Both bands aimed to increase awareness of the efforts of Reconciliation Australia to reduce the current 17-year gap in life expectancy between the average Australian life and that of Indigenous Australians. A triple DVD set was released with the same title as the tour on 1 December 2007 with the Melbourne performances for both bands and backstage occurrences from the tour.

The song was written by Powderfinger lead singer Bernard Fanning,and influenced by bassist John Collins. The riff was then developed by guitarist Ian Haug. The song is about reconciling difficulties and arguments,rather than shifting the blame.
Small Mercies were an Australian alternative rock band from Brisbane,Queensland. They formed in 1997. They used the names,Seventh Avenue and Blaik,before adopting Small Mercies in 2004. Their final line-up was Steve Blaik on lead vocals and guitar,Marty O'Brien on drums,Danny Procopis on lead guitar,and Jeff Reeves on bass guitar. Small Mercies released two EPs,Is This Life? (2003) and Off the Record (2004),and one studio album,Beautiful Hum. Their highest charting release,"Innocent",reached the ARIA Singles Chart Top 40 and was nominated at the ARIA Music Awards of 2007 for Breakthrough Artist –Single. The song was co-written by the group's lead singer-guitarist,Daniel Johns,with Julian Hamilton of The Presets,who is responsible for the "don't know what you want" chorus. The single was released on 23 February 2008,as a digital download. It was the last Silverchair single –the group have been on an "indefinite hiatus" from May 2011.
"Who Really Cares (Featuring the Sound of Insanity)" is a song by Powderfinger from their sixth album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence. It is the fourth single and final single from the album and was released in Australia in March 2008. The band's publicist,Ms. Fanclub,announced on 27 February that the single would be released to radioplay in the following week,without specifying a date. In her announcement,she also noted that a music video will be released at about the same time. The music video was then released in mid-March;however,the single's release was then announced as 31 March.
