The Adamawa Central senatorial district in Adamawa State, Nigeria covers the local government areas of Fufore, Gombi, Girei, Hong, Song, Yola North, and Yola South.

The senator currently representing the district is Aminu Iya Abbas of the Peoples Democratic Party who was elected in 2023. [1] [2]

Since it was carved out of the old Gongola State in 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida military regime, Adamawa State has had 10 men, both military and civilian, controlling the levers of power, who played crucial roles in transforming the state into what it is today.

Abubakar Saleh Michika was a Nigerian civilian governor of Adamawa State, Nigeria from 2 January 1992 to 17 November 1993. He was a member of the then ruling National Republican Convention (NRC). He worked with the British Bank of West Africa in 1966, then John Holt company before joining politics. He was born in Michika, headquarters of the Michika Local Government Area (LGA), in what is now known as Adamawa State Northeast Nigeria. He attended his primary school and Secondary schools in Yola Middle School and done his post secondary education at the School for Arabic studies. He is married to four wives with 38 children, 17 boys and 21 girls, 105 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all from his four wives; Hajiya Daudu, Mairama, Aisha and Nana Saleh Michika from Tamanrasset, Algeria. Saleh Michika created a stir when he said in 1992 that he would be willing to relocate to the neighbouring Cameroun if there were a military coup in Nigeria. Fourteen years later, he made a controversial statement that the solution to the problems of corruption and misrule in the country would be a diarchy, a mixture of military and civilian personalities, with a military head of state.

Adamawa State Polytechnic is a tertiary educational institution in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. It was established in 1991 through a merger of the College of Preliminary Studies Yola and the Staff Development Institute, Numan. The new polytechnic provides national diploma programs in computer science, statistics, accountancy, business studies and secretarial studies. The polytechnic, run by the State government, is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education. The institution has become affiliated with the University of Maiduguri for the purpose of running degree programmes.

Modibbo Adama University, Yola is a public research university in Girei, a town in Adamawa State, Northeastern Nigeria. It is one of the four federal technology universities established with the sole purpose of advancing science-based research. The university has been accredited by the National Universities Commission. The university offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and PhD degrees. The Vice Chancellor is Abdullahi Liman Tukur.

The 2023 Adamawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Adamawa State, concurrent with elections to the Adamawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (PDP) was re-elected by a 3.75% margin over first runner-up and APC nominee — Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed.
