AfricaOne was a privately owned pan-African airline based in Entebbe, Uganda. AfricaOne operated from 2002 to 2009 with aircraft wet leased from AfricaOne Services, registered in Ireland. [2]
Although it shared a very similar name with the Congolese airline Africa One, the two companies are unrelated.
AfricaOne was formally launched on April 29, 2002. It was the successor to the defunct Ugandan airline Alliance Air. [3] [4] Unlike previous attempts to establish a pan-African airline, AfricaOne is owned entirely by private African entrepreneurs without any involvement from governments. [5] Boeing subsidiary Boeing Capital Corporation provided the financing for the startup airline. [6]
The airline was founded by DAS Air Cargo executive director Charles Heather, who also took on the role of CEO of AfricaOne Holdings. Heather's business partner and DAS Air Cargo chairman Capt. Joe Roy became the chairman of AfricaOne Holdings. Both were shareholders in the holding company. [6] Roy also piloted the airline's maiden voyage from London to Entebbe. [4]
The aircraft were provided by the Ireland-registered AfricaOne Services on an ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) basis.
AfricaOne served Entebbe in Uganda, Lagos in Nigeria, Freetown in Sierra Leone, and Banjul in The Gambia using DC-9s with a bi-weekly service from those cities to London Gatwick and Dubai using DC-10s. [7] Flights between Entebbe and Nairobi in Kenya were later added on September 20, 2002. [8]

DAS Air Cargo was a Ugandan cargo airline based at Entebbe as Dairoo Air Services. It operated all-cargo services between Europe and 20 cities throughout Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. Entebbe was a major hub for business in east and southern Africa and also for flights from Bangkok which stage through Dubai. Its main bases were London Gatwick Airport and Entebbe International Airport, with hubs at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, Dubai International Airport and Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The European office was at Crawley, England

Nigeria Airways Ltd., more commonly known as Nigeria Airways, was a one-time Nigerian airline. The company was founded in 1958 after the dissolution of West African Airways Corporation (WAAC). It held the name West African Airways Corporation Nigeria until 1971, when it was renamed, until it ceased operations in 2003. The government of Nigeria owned a majority of the airline (51%) until 1961, when it boosted its shareholding in the company to 100% and made it the country's flag carrier. At the time of dissolution, the airline's headquarters were at Airways House in Abuja. East African Airways Corporation, more commonly known as East African Airways, was an airline jointly run by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. It was set up on 1 January 1946, starting operations the same year. The airline was headquartered in the Sadler House in Nairobi, Kenya. The corporation was dissolved in 1977 amid deteriorated relations among the three countries.

Michael Etiang is a Ugandan airline pilot and business executive, who served as the Chief Pilot of Uganda Airlines, the revived national airline of Uganda, from April 2019. until November 2022. He also concurrently serves as Captain at Uganda Airlines, on both the CRJ900-ER and the A330-841 equipment.

Robert Bwayo Wakhweya is a Ugandan airline pilot, who serves as the Chief Pilot of Uganda Airlines, the revived national airline of Uganda, effective March 2023. He concurrently serves as a Captain on the A330-800 equipment at the airline. He has worked with Uganda Airlines since November 2020.
