The Very Rev Agnew Walter Giles Giffard MA [1] was an eminent Anglican priest in the first half of the 20th century.
Born in Guernsey on 28 April 1869, he was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey and The Queen's College, Oxford and ordained in 1895. [2] After a curacy in Aylesford he held incumbencies at Manton, [3] Messingham with East Butterwick and Sparsholt with Kingston Lisle.
In 1931 he became Dean of Guernsey, a post he held until [4] his death in 1947. [5]

The Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey is the representative of the British monarch in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a Crown dependency of the British Crown. The role of the Lieutenant Governor is to act as the de facto head of state in Guernsey and as liaison between the governments of Guernsey and the United Kingdom. The holder of this office is also ex officio a member of the States of Guernsey but may not vote and, by convention, speaks in the Chamber only on appointment and on departure from post. Sir Richard Collas was born in 1953 in Guernsey where, after studying engineering and accountancy, he moved to law in which he practised for a number of years before moving into the civic duty of Deputy Bailiff. He has held the office of the Bailiff of Guernsey from 2012 until 2020. He was succeeded by Richard McMahon.
