Agononida is a genus of squat lobsters in the family Munididae. In 2022, recognizing that the genus as then defined was paraphyletic, it was divided into three lineages: Agononidasensu stricto and two new genera, Garymunida and Hexamunida. Agononida is distributed in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The Galatheoidea are a superfamily of decapod crustaceans comprising the porcelain crabs and some squat lobsters. Squat lobsters within the three families of the superfamily Chirostyloidea are not closely related to the squat lobsters within the Galatheoidea. The fossil record of the superfamily extends back to the Middle Jurassic genus Palaeomunidopsis.
Munididae is a family of squat lobsters, taxonomically separated from the family Galatheidae in 2010.
Garymunida aequabilis is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. It occurs in the Pacific Ocean. The specific name is derived from the Latin aequabilis, meaning "equal", or "similar", in reference to its similarity to Garymunida pilosimanus.
Agononida alisae is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. The species name is derived from the research vessel that collected the type specimen. The research vessel it was collected on was named "Alis".
Garymunida analoga is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. It is found in the Indo-Pacific. The specific name is derived from the Greek analogos, meaning "resembling", which is in reference to its similarity to both Agononida squamosa and Agononida similis.
Agononida andrewi is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. The species is named after Andrew I. L. Payne, a marine scientist.
Agononida callirrhoe is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. The species name is derived from Callirroe, one of the Oceanids in Greek mythology.
Garymunida garciai is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. It occurs in the western Pacific Ocean near New Guinea and Fiji. The specific name is in reference to Antoni García Rubies.
Garymunida imitata is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. It occurs in French Polynesia. The specific name is derived from the Latin word imitatus, meaning "copy" or "mimic," which is in reference to its similarity to Agononida soelae.
Garymunida isabelensis is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. The species name is from Isabel, one of the Solomon Islands. The males measure from 6.8 to 20.7 millimetres and the females from 5.7 to 31.5 millimetres. It is found off of the Solomon Islands, as the specific epithet implies. It is found at depths between about 240 and 350 metres.
Garymunida laurentae is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae. The species name is dedicated to French carcinologist Michèle de Saint Laurent. The males measure from 5.8 to 28.6 millimetres and the females from 5.7 to 31.5 millimetres. It is found off of New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Chesterfield Islands, Vanuatu, and the Matthew and Hunter Islands, at depths between about 260 and 610 metres.
