Ahmad Ashfaque Karim is a businessman,edupreneur [2] and politician from Katihar,Bihar,India. He is a former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha of the Indian Parliament. [3] He is a part of Janata Dal (United) party. [4] [5]
Dr. Karim is the founder of several educational institutions,including Katihar Medical College and Al-Karim University,and has dedicated his career to education and healthcare,particularly benefiting the Kosi and Seemanchal regions of Bihar and the western part of West Bengal. [6] He had married twice after the death of first wive due to cancer.
Karim was appointed vice-president of the Lok Janshakti Party,and unsuccessfully contested the 2010 State Assembly election for Katihar constituency of the Lok Sabha. [7]
In 2012,Karim established and Kosi Bedari Morcha,a group that campaigns for special status for Bihar's eight districts in Kosi division,one of the poorest regions of India. [8] He is the founder Chairman of Al-Karim Educational Trust,Patna,Bihar;founder Chancellor of Al-Karim University,Katihar,Bihar;and founder Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Katihar Medical College,Katihar,Bihar. He is currently a member of the Janata Dal (United) party and was named a Rajya Sabha candidate from his former party Rashtriya Janta Dal for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections held in March 2018, [10] [11] [12] for which he was one of five candidates elected unopposed. [1]

The Rashtriya Janata Dal is an Indian political party,mainly based in the state of Bihar. The party was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Raghunath Jha was an Indian politician who was Union minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise and member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Bettiah constituency of Bihar and was a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) political party. Later,he formed Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP),which also merged with JD(U) in 2021. On 20 February 2023,Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Morcha due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar. Kushwaha contested the Lok Sabha election of 2024 from Karakat constituency and finished at a distant third position. However,he was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in August 2024.
The Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) was an unrecognised registered political party in India. It was nationally launched by Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar in May 2018. The party was formed after Yadav parted ways from Janata Dal (United),due to its alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar. Sharad Yadav merged with Rashtriya Janata Dal but not the whole Lokatantrik Janata Dal. After Sharad Yadav's death in 2023,the party made his president Javed Raza.

Abhay Kushwaha alias is an Indian politician from the Rashtriya Janata Dal,and a Member of Parliament representing Aurangabad in Bihar,India and former Member of Legislative Assembly for Tikari in the Gaya district of Bihar. An erstwhile member of Janata Dal (United);he won the 2015 Legislative Assembly election to the Tekari constituency by defeating Anil Kumar of Hindustani Awam Morcha,a political party led by former Bihar Chief Minister,Jitan Ram Manjhi. He defeated Anil Kumar by a huge margin of votes. While Abhay secured 86,975 votes,Anil managed to get 55,162 votes only. In 2024 Indian general election,he won the Aurangabad,Bihar Lok Sabha constituency by defeating BJP's four term member of parliament,Sushil Kumar Singh. He contested on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in this election.
