Ahoada West

Ahoada West [1] (also spelt Ehuda West) is a Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria, located Northwest of Port Harcourt. It was extracted in 1996 in the General Sani Abacha military regime from the old Ahoada Local Government that makes up the present Orashi Region of Rivers State. Its seat is in the town of Akinima.

The Local Government Area (LGA) comprises some Ekpeye speaking communities (mostly from the Ubie and Ibuduya clan) and Engenni and Ogbogolo communities. Thus there are three distinct languages namely, Ekpeye, Engenni and Ogbogolo.

Ahoada West is one of the popular Local Government Areas in Rivers State which seats in the South South Region of Nigeria, and they are also have rich cultural heritage.

The Orashi River criss-crosses which is at the lower basin of the Niger River, the entire Local Government area and its vegetation is mainly a high dense rain forest. Thus, the occupations of the Ahoada West people are mainly farming, fishing, and hunting.[ citation needed ]

Ahoada West Local Government Area is bounded by the following LGAs: Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Abua/Odual Local Government Area, Ahoada East Local Government Area on the east, we have Besini and Yenagoa both of Bayelsa State on the North and West respectively. The boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa States from the west is located at Engenni.

Climate/Geography

The Ahoada West local government region experiences an average yearly temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and an estimated humidity of 88%. There are several rivers and tributaries in the area, the most notable of which being the Orashi river. [1] [3]

Dẹgẹma is an Edoid language spoken in two separate communities on Degema Island in the Niger Delta, Nigeria, by about 120,000 people, according to 1991 census figures. The two communities are Usokun-Degema and Degema Town in the Degema Local Government Area in Rivers State. Each community speaks a mutually intelligible variety of Dẹgẹma, known by the names of the communities speaking them: the Usokun variety and the Degema Town variety. Both varieties are similar in their phonological, morphological, syntactic and semantic properties.

The Engenni people live in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. They are among the many sub Ijaw groups but they speak a language which linguistic scholars have described to be Edoid. They live in close proximity with other Ijaw people. They primarily live in Ahoada west local government area of Rivers state, Nigeria. Although they consider themselves to be Engenni, the Engenni speak an Edoid language. Alagoa (2003) said: “---The penetration of the Niger-Delta by Edoid groups extends to the Epie-Atissa and Engenni of the central and Eastern Niger-Delta----The Epie, along with the Ogbia and other groups of the central and eastern Niger-Delta, are historically united with the Ijaw.” The other groups of the central and eastern Niger-Delta which Professor Ebiegberi Alagoa said that were historically united with the Ijaw, include the Engenni, as shown from his narrative above. The Engenni have close relations with neighbouring Ijaw tribes such as the Zarama and Epie-Atissa.

Odual is a poorly studied Central Delta language spoken by the Odual community in the Abua–Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State and Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

Oyigbo also known as Obigbo is a Local Government Area located in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is a town, 30 kilometers from the Port city of Port Harcourt, 25km from the city of Aba. It's predominantly inhabited by the Asa people an indigenous Igbo people who are also found in Ukwa west L.G.A in Abia state and the Ndoki people who are also found in Ukwa East L.G.A of Abia state and Ukanafun L.G.A of Akwa ibom state

Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni is a Local Government Area of Rivers State, in South-South Nigeria under Rivers West Senatorial District, with its headquarters at Omoku. With about 258,700 People according to 2006 Census. It is bounded by Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Anambra States and also by Ahoada West, Ahoada East and Emohua Local Government Areas of Rivers State. They are part of the Igboid speaking Areas of Rivers State with three Tribes starting with Ogba as the dominant tribe with 12 legislative wards, the Egbema and Ndoni people who are also found in Ogbaru L.G.A and Ukwuani L.G.A both with 2&3 legislative wards respectively. It is majorly upland and home to the highest upstream Oil and Gas exploration/exploitation activity in the State since the early 1960's with about 12 mining/producing fields operated by AGIP, Total Energies and Shell/NPDC with many other reserve/untapped fields. It is part of the Ogba / Egbema / Ndoni / Ahoada West constituency of the Nigerian House of Representatives. Hon. Vincent Job is the Executive Chairman of ONELGA.

Tai is a Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State in Nigeria. It covers an area of 159 km2 and at the 2006 Census it had a population of 117,797. It is part of the Okrika/Oyigbo/Tai/Eleme constituency of the Nigerian Senate, represented since April 2007 by George Thompson Sekibo. Tai local government headquarters is situated at Sakpenwa. Christianity and traditionalism are widely practiced in the area and little Islamic religion In the April 2007 elections the Tai LGA recorded an implausible 99.6% turnout for the Governorship election. Celestine Omehia of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party was at first declared winner, but his election was later annulled and Rotimi Amaechi, also of the PDP, was declared governor. Kolokuma/Opokuma is a Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Kaiama. Much of the area of the LGA is occupied by the Bayelsa National Forest.

Ekpeye language is one of many languages spoken in Rivers State, Nigeria. According to Roger Blench, Ekpeye is classified as an Igboid language. Although an Igboid language, Ekpeye has evolved to a very distinct Igboid language that is phonologically different from other Igboid languages. The Ogba and Ikwerre languages are closely related to Ekpeye. Ekpeye has many mutually intelligible dialects.

Princewill Ogbogbula is the current Commissioner of Youth Development in the Executive Council of Rivers State. He was appointed to the position in 2015 by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

Ehie Ogerenye Edison MHA is a Nigerian politician was former Deputy Speaker, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and currently the chief of staff, government house, Port Harcourt. He was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2015, and re-elected in the rerun election in 2016 and 2019 and represents the constituency of Ahoada East II under the platform of the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party.
