Aise (Greek : Αϊσέ, Turkish : Ayşe), [1] Turkish : Atımı Bağladım Ben Bir Ormana, is an instrumental dance tune common throughout the eastern Mediterranean. Sections of its melody are found as part of “Selanik”(“Thessalonikê”), a tune from Macedonia; in apiece by the Ottoman Armenian composer Tatyos Efendi; and in the song, “Love’s Like a Pin,”from Asia Minor and Propontis (for a recording, see Songs and Tunes of Thrace, CUP CD 7-8, 1:3). What was probably the first recording has also been identified: a 78 made in Cairo in 1910 under the title, “Bulbul Al-Afrah” (“The Happy Nightingale”), with the Jewish musician Ibrahim Sahalun ’s Takht on violin. In Lesvos, the tune is called “Aisé” (a Turkish female name). It may have had lyrics at some point in the past and was most commonly performed in the west of the island.
The tune is characteristic of the petachtos karsilamas- an entire category of dance performed to tunes with a very rapid time signature (although today, thanks to the choreographic intervention of the dance association, it is presented as a “chair dance”). This type of karsilamas is also called aïdinikos (see the section on dance), and the rhythm has nine beats (2+2+2+3).There are similar folkloric tunes known as Gel Gel Aman .
Atımı bağladım ben bir ormana
Benden selam söylede çapkın oğlana
Oğlan gıdı gıdıdagel gel gel gel
Eller sarar ah yüreğime dert olur
Atımı bağladım ben bir meşeye
Benden selam söylede çapkın Ayşe'ye
Ayşem gıdı gıdıdagel gel gel gel
Eller sarar ah yüreğime dert olur.

The music of Greece is as diverse and celebrated as its history. Greek music separates into two parts: Greek traditional music and Byzantine music, with more eastern sounds. These compositions have existed for millennia: they originated in the Byzantine period and Greek antiquity; there is a continuous development which appears in the language, the rhythm, the structure and the melody. Music is a significant aspect of Hellenic culture, both within Greece and in the diaspora.

The Chams have their own particular cultural identity, which is a mixture of Albanian and Greek influences as well as many specifically Cham elements. A number of Chams contributed to the Albanian national identity and played an important role in starting the renaissance of the Albanian culture in the 19th century. The Chams speak their own dialect of the Albanian language, the Cham Albanian dialect, which is a Southern Tosk Albanian dialect and one of the two most conservative ones; the other being Arvanitika.

The Greek junta or Regime of the Colonels was a far-right authoritarian military junta that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. On 21 April 1967, a group of colonels overthrew the caretaker government a month before scheduled elections which Georgios Papandreou's Centre Union was favoured to win. The dictatorship was characterised by right-wing cultural policies, restrictions on civil liberties, and the imprisonment, torture, and exile of political opponents. An attempt to renew its support in a 1973 referendum on the monarchy and gradual democratisation was ended by another coup by the hardliner Dimitrios Ioannidis. The junta's rule ended on 24 July 1974 under the pressure of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, leading to the Metapolitefsi to democracy and the establishment of the Third Hellenic Republic.

The Souliotes were an Eastern Orthodox community of the area of Souli, in Epirus. They are known for their military prowess, their resistance to the local Ottoman Albanian ruler Ali Pasha, and their contribution to the Greek cause in the Greek War of Independence, under leaders such as Markos Botsaris and Kitsos Tzavelas. The Souliotes established an autonomous confederation dominating a large number of neighbouring villages in the remote mountainous areas of Epirus, where they could successfully resist Ottoman rule. At the height of its power, in the second half of the 18th century, the community is estimated to have consisted of up to 12,000 inhabitants in about 60 villages. The community was classified as Greek in the Ottoman system of social classification because they were part of the Greek Orthodox Church and because of their identification with Greece.
