ObongAkpan Isemin listen was elected governor of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria from January 1992 to November 1993 during the Nigerian Third Republic. [1]
He also held the traditional title of Obong Ikpa Isong Ibibio,one of the traditional titles amongst the Ibibio nation.
Isemin was born about 1939 in Mbioto,Etinan local government area in Akwa Ibom state,of Ibibio background. [2] He attended the Etinan Institute for his secondary education,then the University of Nigeria,Nsukka where he earned a B.Sc. degree in Economics. He first worked with Agip and Esso Standard in the oil industry. In 1969,he joined Avery Limited as Sales Executive,holding this position for 13 years and rising to become an executive director before retiring. He also wrote a column in Business Times. [3]
Running on the National Republican Convention (NRC) platform,Isemin was elected Governor of Akwa Ibom state on 14 December 1991,serving from 2 January 1992 to 18 November 1993,and losing office after the military coup that brought General Sani Abacha to power. He was known for his "Ubom Noah" (Noah's Ark) philosophy,within which all people should be given opportunity regardless of ethnic origin,and demonstrated this through his appointments of people with diverse origins. He managed to persuade the Federal government to increase the oil revenue allocation from N350,000 per month to N11.2 million. [4]
At the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic in 1999,Isemin again sought election as Akwa Ibom governor running on the All People's Party (APP) platform,but lost to Obong Victor Attah. In 2003,he unsuccessfully sought election as a senator on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform. Later he joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP). [3]
Isemin died on 23 June 2009. There was some controversy over his death,with his widow blaming it on poor facilities at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital,where lack of electricity prevented him receiving dialysis,and the hospital claiming that he had refused to accept the recommended treatment. Akwa Ibom State is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria,bordered on the east by Cross River State,on the west by Rivers State and Abia State,and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean. The state takes its name from the Qua Iboe River which bisects the state before flowing into the Bight of Bonny. Obong Victor Bassey Attah was Governor of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the People's Democratic Party (PDP),but has since joined the All Progressives Congress.

The villagers are the Ibibio people who are of the Afaha group within the Iman Clan. The language spoken in the village isIbibio. Ikot Udo Abia lies in the area of Africa which was affected by the Atlantic slave trade of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries.
Bassey Albert Akpan is a Nigerian politician who has been a member of the Senate of Nigeria since June 2015. Previously,he was Commissioner of Finance in Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2014. Ikot Ukpong is a village in Okon development ward II of Eket local government area,Akwa Ibom State,Nigeria. Ikot Ukpong means "Family of Ukpong" or "People of Ukpong". Ikot Ukpong is made up of different settler-families and descendants of the founder of the village. The deity of Ikot Ukpong was called "Ukpong Idem",meaning "spirit body". Other deities traditionally recognised by the village were Ekpo (ancestors) and Ndem Ikpa Isong. Their primary language is Ibibio despite their affinity with Ekid people of Eket. The 2023 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Akwa Ibom State,concurrent with elections to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. It will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
