Anthony "Alann" Johnson is an American politician from the state of Alabama. He is a member of the Alabama House of Representatives.
Johnson is a former legislative aide to the Alabama House. He worked as the executive director of Leadership Jefferson County and an associate minister at Zion Star Missionary Baptist Church. [1] He won a special election on April 1,2014,to succeed Demetrius Newton as the representative from District 53. The district has been eliminated through redistricting,and Johnson will not run for reelection to the state House in the November 2014 elections. [2]
Johnson graduated from the Morehouse School of Religion. He is the grandson of Nelson Henry Smith,Jr.,a minister associated with the Civil Rights Movement.
John Jackson Sparkman was an American jurist and politician from the state of Alabama. A Southern Democrat,Sparkman served in the United States House of Representatives from 1937 to 1946 and the United States Senate from 1946 until 1979. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in the 1952 presidential election.
Henry Calvin Johnson Jr. is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Georgia's 4th congressional district since 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The district is anchored in Atlanta's inner eastern suburbs,including Decatur,all of Rockdale County,Lithonia,Stone Mountain,Covington and a sliver of Atlanta itself. Johnson is one of only three Buddhists to have served in the United States Congress. The others are Senator Mazie Hirono and former Representative Colleen Hanabusa,both of Hawaii.

The Alabama Republican Party is the state affiliate of the Republican Party in Alabama. It is the dominant political party in Alabama. The state party is governed by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee. The committee usually meets twice a year. As of the February 23,2019 meeting in Birmingham,the committee is composed of 463 members. Most of the committee's members are elected in district elections across Alabama. The district members are elected in the Republican Primary once every four years,with the most recent election for the committee having been on June 5,2018. The new committee takes office following the general election in November 2018. In addition,all 67 county GOP chairmen have automatic seats as voting members. The state chairman can appoint 10 members. Each county committee can appoint bonus members based on a formula that theoretically could add 312 seats,although that formula currently calls for only about 50 seats.

Demetrius Caiphus Newton was an American civil rights attorney and politician. He filed lawsuits to end segregation,and represented Martin Luther King Jr.,Rosa Parks,and others in cases related to civil rights. He then served in the Alabama House of Representatives,representing the 53rd district,from 1986 to his death in 2013. He became the first Black speaker pro tempore in the history of the Alabama House,serving in the role from 1998 through 2010.

Incumbent Governor Kay Ivey (R),who took office on April 10,2017,upon the resignation of Robert Bentley (R) ran for election to a full term and won over Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox.
