Albian Hajdari (born 18 May 2003) is a Swiss Kosovan professional footballer who plays as defender for Swiss Super League club Lugano and the Switzerland national team.
Hajdari first played for local club FC Aesch and moved to Basel's youth academy in 2014. He joined FC Basel's first team directly from their U-18 team for their 2020–21 season under head coach Ciriaco Sforza. Somewhat surprising came the announcement on 19 September that Juventus had bought the rights of the young right back defender Hajdari. But Hajdari stayed with the squad, being loaned back to Basel for two seasons. [1] [2]
Hajdari played his professional debut for the club in the away game on 27 September as Basel were defeated 1–0 by Servette. The winning goal was scored from the penalty spot, the penalty was caused as the ball was headed from very close range onto Hajdari's upper right arm. [3] On 15 July 2021, Juventus announced the termination of the loan one year early. [4] However, he did not play any matches with the Juventus U-19. On 4 January 2022, he returned to the Swiss club on a six-month loan. [5]
During his time with Basel's first team, Hajdari played a total of 24 games for them scoring one goal. Nine of these games were in the Swiss Super League, and 15 were friendly games. He scored his only goal during the test game on 12 January 2022 as Basel beat Lugano 2–1. [6] During his time on loan to Basel, Hajdari also had five appearances in their U-21 team in the third tier of Swiss football. [7]
For the 2022–23 Swiss Super League season Hajdari was loaned to Lugano.
On 1 April 2023, the deal became permanent and he signed a four-year deal for the club. [8]
Born in Switzerland, Hajdari is of Kosovan descent. [9] Hajdari was called up for the Swiss youth team and joined the Swiss U-18 on 1 July 2020.
Hajdari played a total of 31 times for Swiss U-national teams between 2018 and 2024, scoring one goal.
In November 2024, national coach Murat Yakin called him up to the senior national team squad for the first time for two matches in the UEFA Nations League . He was already available for the 2024 European Championship and the preparations for the tournament, but was not called up to the squad. Hajdari finally made his international debut on 25 March 2025 in a friendly against Luxembourg
on 26 August 2025 the Football Federation of Kosovo had shown interest in him to play for the Kosovo national team as he has only played 1 friendly match for Switzerland he is still be eligible to play for the Kosovo team.
On 27 August 2025, Hajdari told the Kosovan TV channel KTV Kohavision I have not received a call-up from Switzerland yet for the September matches. The door is still open for both Switzerland and Kosovo, but my focus is on Hoffenheim. I want to adapt here first before making a final decision.
On 30 August 2025, Hajdari met with the president of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Agim Ademi, after his Bundesliga Match with TSG Hoffenheim against Eintracht Frankfurt. which was seen as a possible indication of his interest in representing Kosovo at the international level.
