Mor Alexandrios Thomas , formerly Thomas Abraham Neriyanthara, is the Metropolitan of Mumbai Diocese of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church. [1] A popular priest in the state, he was ordained in 2004 and consecrated in 2012 by Baselios Thomas I.

Biography

Thomas Abraham Neriyanthara was born in Panampady, Kottayam, Kerala in 1971 as son of Fr. N. M. Abraham and Mrs. Elizabeth Abraham. He was baptized at St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Panampady, Kottayam his home parish. [2]

Theological studies

After his graduation, he joined the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Dehradun for his Theological studies. He completed his B.Th. (Bachelor of Theology) Post which he completed Master of Divinity from Beracah Bible College & Seminary, Thiruvallur. He also holds a diploma in Philosophy from Mor Aphrem Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam, Kerala [2]

Ordination

Thomas Abraham Neriyanthara was ordained as a deacon on 15 March 1997, by Joseph Mor Gregorios and as a priest on 15 May 2004, by Thomas Mor Themotheos. After his ordination as priest he served as vicar in St. Peter's J.S.O Church, Chicago, USA and St. Mary's JSO Church, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He was elevated to the position of Metropolitan (Bishop) as Thomas Mor Alexandrios on 2 January 2012 at the Puthencuriz St. Athanasious Cathedral by Baselios Thomas I. [2] [3]

Other positions

He is the founder and director of Santhwana Guidance & Counselling Centre at Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The centre was consecrated by Baselios Thomas I on 24 March 2012. [2] [4]

The synod of the Jacobite Church made him metropolitan of their Mumbai diocese on 13 June 2013. [5]

Mor Severios Abraham is a Syriac Orthodox bishop. As of 2013, he is the Metropolitan of Angamali region of the Angamali Diocese and Abbott of Mor Gabriel Dayro (Monastery). He is the most senior metropolitan in the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.

Mor Themotheos Thomas was ordained as the Metropolitan of the Outside Kerala Diocese on 3 January 1991 by Mor Baselios Paulose II Catholicos of the East .

The Catholicos of India, or Maphrian of the India, is the head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, a Maphrianate of the Syriac Orthodox Church, functioning within the Church at an ecclesiastical-rank second to the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, and his name is commemorated in liturgy throughout the Syriac Orthodox Archdioceses in India and its diaspora. The position was renamed as Catholicos of India in 2002, in accordance with its actual jurisdiction.

Baselios Augen I was the 17th Malankara Metropolitan, the fourth Catholicos of the East in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, and the first Catholicos of the East in the Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church. He was the first Catholicos consecrated in a reunified Malankara Church, by the Patriarch of Antioch in 1964 but his tenure saw a second split in the Holy Church.

St. George's Monastery is a Jacobite Syrian Christian Church situated at a hilltop near Puthencruz, Ernakulam District, Kerala. The monastery was established by Mor Yulius Elias Qoro. The Malankara Syrian Orthodox Seminary began functioning in this monastery and later moved to Udayagiri. The monastery is the final resting place of Catholicos Baselios Paulose II. In 2019, a retreat house named Khanema Hanna Home was consecrated by Ignatius Aphrem II Patriarch near to the Monastery.

Malankara Malpan Arch Corepiscopa Curien (Kurian) Kaniyamparambil was a priest in the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church and a scholar of the Syriac language, who translated the Bible (വിശുദ്ധഗ്രന്ഥം) from the Syriac Peshitta text to Malayalam. This is the official bible used by Syriac Orthodox Church in India.

The St. Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Church, Kanjiramattom was founded and established on 2 August 1879 by Malankara Metropolitan Mor Dionysius Joseph Pulikottil. The church is part of an ancient church called ‘Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch’, one of the members of Oriental Orthodox Church family.

Mor Clemis Abraham, the Great Metropolitan of the East was the senior metropolitan (1957–58) of Syriac Orthodox Church. He was in charge of Knanaya Syrian Archdiocese.

Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Delegates of India or the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal delegate to the India is the representative of the patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, who is sent to India to guide and administer the church, or on special occasions, as the representative of the Holy See of Antioch.
