Ali Baba is an Indian fantasy television series based on the Arabian Nights character Ali Baba. Produced by Alind Srivastava and Nissar Parvez under Peninsula Pictures, it formerly starred Sheezan Mohammed Khan, [1] Tunisha Sharma, [2] Karthik Jayaram [3] and Sayantani Ghosh in the first season titled Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul : Chapter 1 (TRANSLATION : Ali Baba : Legend of Kabul : Chapter 1). [4] It premiered on 22 August 2022 to 14 January 2023 on Sony SAB [5] and digitally streams on SonyLIV. [6] Since 16 January 2023 it stars Abhishek Nigam replacing Khan and Manul Chudasama replacing Tunisha as the leads in the new season titled Ali Baba: Ek Andaaz Andekha : Chapter 2 (TRANSLATION : Ali Baba : A Style Unseen : Chapter 2). [7] [8] The series follows the life of an orphan Alibaba, from the Mamuli Gali of Kabul, and the challenges he faces while he tries to protect and take care of five other orphan children.

Plot

Chapter 1: Dastaan-E-Kabul

Ali Baba is a poor,yet a very good person living with 5 adorable orphan children viz Gulrez,Poya,Imaad,Nafi and Alifi. He always gets flashbacks of when his father, the great magician Mustafa gets killed while destroying the Forty Thieves and their Leader, Iblis. However, he makes a prophecy that Ali will write and complete 'Legend of Kabul'. Simsim who loves and respects Iblis, decides to crack the moon to break the curse to get the Forty Thieves back and succeeds in it. Princess Mariam looses her father due to a fight between her father and her wicked uncle,Saddam; a cunning person who helps Simsim but wants to sit on the Throne. Later, Mariam escapes and after a lot of turns meets Ali.

They slowly develop feelings for each other and Ali, Mariam and the children reach Ali's home. Ali and Simsim come face to face but Ali wins the Talisman and becomes the Saviour of Parwaaz.Ali Baba goes to the cave to steal the treasure but Ali Baba is brutaly beated by the forty thieves and Simsim. Brutaly injured Ali escapes the cave by his intelligence but was unabled to steal the treasure as talisman's magic didn't worked in the cave due to Simsim's magic. Badly defeated Ali Baba practices magic of the taliaman. After defeating Fakri (a huge sepent sent by Simsim),and overcoming the obstacles while using the powers of talisman, Ali Baba tricks the forty theives and Simsim by the magic of talsiman and steals a part of treasure and gave it to the people of Parwaaz. However,Qasim watched this incident and get to know the identity of the saviour (Rakhwala) and also get to know the code word of the cave. Then, Qasim reaches the Cave and gets brutaly killed by Simsim and the Forty Thieves.They also hanged him in the centre of Parwaaz and warns that nobody will get him otherwise his whole family will die. Ali tries to get Qasim but Marjina and his friends stopped him to not do this for the sake of the family. Qasim's wife gets angered by Ali and closes the house door at him. Then Ali in Saviour's form gives a proper burial to Qasim with the help of a tailor to sew the wounds of Qasim's body and provides Nazia to see Qasim the last time. But the tailor informs the forty theives about the Saviour of Parwaaz. But Marjina tricks the forty theives by marking every house in Parwaaz and saves the Saviour of Parwaaz. Then, Ali Baba promises to finish Simsim and the Forty Thieves.

Ali Baba now tries to find a way to kill the forty theives and Simsim once and for all. Then by solving clues of his father, Ali reaches his father's magical world and after a lot of turns meets his father who gives him the 'Noor' but warns him that the Noor works only with the Talisman. After returing, he discovers that Nazia has sold the Talisman. Ali goes to find the talisman but gets to know from Nafi that Marjina has been capured. Then he decides to save Marjina's life first. On the quest to save Marjina, Ali fails and burns his face by forty theives and was left to die.

Simsim gets out of the Cave by breaking the curse by sacrificing Marjina and enters Parvaz as Simijaan to catch the Rakhwala. She also captures Ali's grandmother. Very soon, she enters Mustafa's magical world to find her answers and again comes face to face with Mustafa.

Chapter 2: Ek Andaaz Andekha

Simsim asks Mustafa who the Rakhwala is and he answers that his son,Ali is. At the same time,Alifi saves Noora Dadi and burns the entrance to Mustafa's world to finish Simsim but fails. Ali gets the cure by the 'Bikshoo' and his people and his new face gets revealed. The Bikshoo also gives an ancient sword to Ali which makes a connection with Ali and only Ali can hold the sword. Then he goes to Parwaaz as Chote Kotwal with Hasan as Bade Kotwal to find Simsim and also brings the body of Iblis and the news that the Saviour was none other than Ali Baba and now he is dead. By Chote Kotwal's rude behaviour, everyone dislikes him. But later Alifi gets to know the truth of Chote Kotwal that Chote Kotwal is Ali Baba. Chote Kotwal angers Simsim by insulting Iblis. Then, Simsim brings a genie (which is one of the Iblis' fourteen devils and which betrayed Iblis as he loved a human girl) and promises him to give the heart of his lover to him. Later by defeating Ghaddar the genie Ali gets to know a hint to the way to get Marjina.But with Ghaddar's help Simsim frees Iblis and brings him back to the cave. Chote Kotwal then comes to Ali's house to live here so that he can secure them but nobody accepts him especially the kids but he offers money so Nazia agrees to kept Chote Kotwal and Bade Kotwal in the house. Later, Chote Kotwal takes Simsim to Egypt to imprison her and to get the way back to Marjina. Very soon, Ali imprisons Simsim and gets to know the real place of Marjina. Then he finds Marjina but is shocked to see that Marjina has lost her memory. Ali gets to know that the Prince of Ras Al Khaimah is responsible for Marjina losing her memory and after a lot of turns, Ali defeated the Prince and takes Marjina back to Parwaaz. The children also fall in danger but ultimately succeeds and returns to Parwaaz.

On the way, Ali and Marjina unknowingly disturb a marriage as an headless woman comes and takes the Groom. To help the people and to free the groom Ali makes a plan to catch the headless woman. To save Ali, Marjina also comes. But the headless woman takes them to her place where other grooms are also kept. In Parwaaz, on the request of children, Alifi tells the children that Chote Kotwaal is Ali Baba. After that they goes to find the Talisman and ends up in a place of snakes. On the other hand, Ali promises to find the head of the headless woman and succeeds. Simsim is freed by the forty theives and the most powerful devil in Iblis' fourteen devils. However, Ali defeated the most powerful devil of Iblis also. Simsim then seeks to take revenge on Ali. Ali goes in search of Marjina's memory but Simsim comes in his way and starts torturing him and also gets to know that Chote Kotwal is Ali Baba. Marjina comes and saves Ali's life by the torch given by the headless woman to them for bringing her head. Then Ali battles with Simsim. But in the battle she burns the tree carrying Marjina's memory but Ali successfuly brings the memory of Marjina by jumping into the fire. Ali and Marjina captures Simsim in a circle created by the lantern and stops her there and then they ran from her. Ali then gives the memory of Marjina to her and she recalls everything but questions about Ali's face but Ali explains her how his face changed. The children also escape from the Snake World but Nafi and Poya are turned into gold stones. Saddam brings the news about the talsiman and she gets to know that children know the whereabouts of the talsiman so she kidnaps them and capture them in the palace of Kabul Sahi. Saddam then tortures them.

On returning home happily, Ali and Marjina gets to know from Hasan, (who was sabbed by Simsim and left alive to give the information to Ali), that the children are kidnapped by Simsim in the palace of Kabul Shahi. Ali and Marjina comes to Kabul Shahi to save the children and where Ali realises that Marjina is actually Princess Mariam. Then they successfully saved the children and Mariam finally kills Saddam. Simsim goes to find the Talisman but fails and gets to know that she needs Ali's helps to get the talsiman as she saw the tattoo of Noora on Ali 's back when she was doing battle with Ali Baba. She asks Ali's help but he refuses. Then she kills Noora Dadi and threatens Ali that she will kill every one Ali has loved and will destroy the entire Parwaaz. So for the sake of everyone's life , Ali Baba promises to get the Talisman for her.

Then they reach the Shangrila in the north of Hindustan to get the talisman where Ali gets injured by Simsim's arrow saving Roshni from the arrow. Then Roshni takes them inside the Shangrila.

Production

Casting

Sheezan Mohammed Khan [20] was cast in the titular role, [21] and was joined by Tunisha Sharma, [22] Karthik Jayaram [23] and Sayantani Ghosh [24] as leads.

Navina Bole was cast to portray Fatima's mother in October 2022. [25]

Abhishek Nigam replaced Sheezan Mohammed Khan in Season 2 in January 2023 post Sharma's demise while Manul Chudasama replaced Tunisha as Mariam in the following month. [17] [8]

Controversy

On 24 December 2022, actress Tunisha Sharma playing the lead role of Shehzaadi Mariam, committed suicide by hanging herself in the green room of co-star Sheezan Mohammed Khan on set. [26] [27] She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. [28]

Hours after her death her co-actor, rumored boyfriend and the lead Sheezan Mohammed Khan was booked in the case of abetment for suicide by her mother. [29] [30]

On 4 January 2023, Federation of Western India Cine Employees, president BN Tiwari demanded strict action against the makers for negligence. [31] [32]

Development

The series was announced by Peninsula Pictures [33] in March 2022 and was confirmed in July 2022 by Sony SAB. [34] The shooting of the series began in June 2022 in Ladakh, India. [35]

Filming

The shooting of the series halted after the lead actress Tunisha Sharma committed suicide on set in Naigaon. [36] [37] [38] [39] The show had an episode bank of one week. [40] [41]

The cast resumed the shooting of the series on January 4, 2023, on Renu Studio in Naigaon. Actor Abhishek Nigam was finalized to replace Sheezan Khan as Ali Baba in a new plot. [42] [43]

Suresh Shyamlal Gupta is an Indian politician, trade union leader, and social activist. He is the founder and president of the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA). He has been elected Mumbai President for the youth wing of the Indian National Trade Union Congress, and one of the committee members of the Government of Maharashtra in the area of industries, labor, and energy. Suresh Gupta is known to have busted an illegal kidney racket of Hiranandani Hospital owners Niranjan Hiranandani and Surendra Hiranandani in 2016. Following this incident, a CBI inquiry into the murder of an eyewitness of Hiranandani Hospital was demanded. He once objected to the Web series Sacred Games, as to the profound use to profanity and for displaying fake scenes against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi which streams on Netflix. He also banned Pakistani artists and singers in India during the Pulwama terror attack. Gupta wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj asking Pakistani artists to be deported and their visas canceled. Popular singer Mika Singh was also banned from the Indian film industry by Suresh Gupta for performing live at the wedding ceremony of General Pervez Musharraf's relatives after the Pulwama attack in Karachi.

Sheezan Mohammed Khan is an Indian television actor. He is best known as young Akbar/Sultan Murad Mirza in Jodha Akbar and as Ali Baba in Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul.

3 Monkeys is an upcoming 2023 Indian Hindi-language heist thriller film directed by the duo Abbas–Mustan. The film is produced by Allarakha Vohra, Faruk Vohra, Sayeed Vohra and co-produced by Sharmin Vohra under the banner of AV Picture Production LLP. The film stars Arjun Rampal and Priya Prakash Varrier.
